costs about £200 per month to look after.

200 * 1.55 US dollars = $310 a month.

I think I can afford a horse, but not on US welfare which actually pays about $3.10 a month.

One, that horse is dressed like a hobbit. Two, what's the matter with horse people? On the scale of people who like their animals way too much, there are crazy cat ladies on one end, and way, way, way down in the deep end are horse people. If I walked into a room and there was a group of furries on one side - in full costume - and horse people on the other, I'd think long and hard about walking to the furry side before I immediately turned around and left the room.

What's hilarious is seeing the casual horse owner in Central frikkin' Texas putting those clip on blankets on their horses for "Winter". So we go up to Wolf Creek Pass,Colorado in February and they're lolling around happily in the pasture, in 2 feet of snow, blanket-less.

The poor probably don't make that many more bad financial decisions, they just don't have the ability to recover from them as easily. If I blow $500 doing something that won't benefit me it may set me back for a week, maybe two. If a poor(er) person does it, it can be the straw that breaks the camel's back.

George W. Bush has lost more of other people's money than many people will ever make in a lifetime.

You're answer makes too much sense so they'll ignore it.

Woman in the article is Obama's wet dream.

In fact, poor communities have their own, almost entirely off-the-books economies and people learn very quickly to make smart, shrewd decisions to survive.  If we were suddenly thrown into that world, we would flounder (unless of course you're some Randian superman who was born with supersmarts and would always rise to the very top because you're so very very clever).  Drug fiends and alcoholics don't make very good decisions, but that's true whether you're filthy rich (*cough* Texas Rangers *cough*) or very poor.  Assuming that poor=stupid and rich=smart is pretty facile.

It's easy to believe troll headlines from the likes of the Telegraph and assume that everyone who has ever received a nickel of money is nothing but a lazy, sleazy scammer stealing your money.  Now please tell me how the media leads sheeple to believe whatever they want.

One other thing, I hadn't heard that Obama was pushing to give horses to poor families.  Do you have any citations on that?

My friend has a tube rat, and when she gets going on about them she rambles incoherently like she is in a trance. It's unnerving. I believe she would take a bullet for the damn thing

Unlike most carpet-sharks, Ted there actually has a job.  Considering winter lasts 6 months here, shrews and/or field mice try to come into the garage to live.  But once a ferret has crawled through an area and put down their predator scent, a rodent won't go anywhere near the place, even if it means they freeze to death.  Ted there has kept my garage mouse-free for 6 years now.

Just wondering though... what are you going to do with your self esteem?

For 15 years my child support paid for 2 horses for my daughter to have at the stables where she would occasionally be forced to ride them. She could not possibly care less about them, my ex just wanted her to have them because SHE never did. Couldn't keep a house or apartment, let alone keep my daughter in one school for a year, but boy... those horses got only the best.

Bitter? Me... Nah.. i had to pay the damned support anyway.. I would have just preferred it went to my daughter, not my ex's pipe dream.

Nobody here is getting their information straight from the horses mouth, instead of giving this mare the benefit of the doubt you chauvinists are riding roughshod over this lady just because she's champing at the bit to go hell for leather with a big strong stallion. Every one of you needs to use some good old horse sense and  trot along.

OMG what a freeloader with bad money management skills! Now, where were those articles about bank bailouts and fortune 500 companies not paying taxes. I have to protect those job creators from the stupid unwashed masses that only want to ruin them.

You know some of us don't like freeloaders small or big. Five year lifetime limit on welfare should be properly enforced for people and corps.

A slut with 5 bastards gets about $65,000 a year in England.

A slut with 11 probably gloms $100K+.

Any question why they do it?

Horses are used to provide examples of what decent teeth look like.

Headso: 300 bucks a month is a bargain to keep a horse at a stable...

This.  I would have had a horse years ago if that was the cost.  My grandmother left me money to buy a horse, but the cost of keeping one is just too expensive, so I went to Japan with my school that year instead.

Banned on the Run: Horse people are the most irrational on the planet.
Jihadists are downright reasonable compared to that lot.

I'm a horse nut, but not like the kind you're talking about.  I did come across those types during my riding days though, always the super rich chicks at riding competitions, looking down on us who rode the stable horses and wore outfits bought from Value Village.

15 Kid Welfare Mom: "Somebody Owes Me"

Mmm. First pregnant at 14, goes on to have 11 more kids. OK that's quite a high score she's racking up there, and at our expense too. Clever. Not very moral but she's put one over on the rest of us. She wins, we lose.
It should be said that the founders of our modern welfare state would have deeply disapproved of this had they lived to see it. Attlee, Bevin and Bevan must be spinning in their graves, this is not what they intended.
