Midnight Rambler: FTFA: MacKinnon tells Goldstein that after seeing the cookie trashing, things will change. "Is it the Girl Scout way? No. Did it happen? Yes. Will it happen again? No."

He went on to say, "Do I like to ask myself questions and then answer them out loud? Yes. Is that in any way annoying? I'm sure it is. Do I sound like an idiot? Of course I do."

actually there is a valid reason. one company i worked for did something similar. the reasoning is "if we give away the product for free, then we take a customer off the market". so any unused product gets destroyed and trashed.

problem here is someone started asking questions. end result is no one wants to take the blame and they deflect blame off to some other schmuck. no one gets answers, everyone soon forgets.

I_Hate_Stupid_People: 13,000 cases x 12 boxes per case x $3.50 per box = $546,000!

If it make you feel any better FTA:  Eleven-hundred cases trashed, 13,200 boxes in all

So they only tossed 13,200 servings, not 156,000.  $46,200 - 66,000 worth (at $3.50 -$5.00 a box....given this was in LA, probably more likely to be $5)

The higher number is the estimated street value.

Back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth & I was a Girl Scout myself, there were never that many extra cookies & we could always give them to Some Deserving Group.    sorry, no foto

dj1s: Hey!  I am a supporter of the GSA.  But, instead of buying those nasty ass cookies I send them a check to commend them for being open minded.

That won't get you on the sex offender registry?

If you have extra cookies, why not "sell" them as donated cookies? For example, I was given the option of throwing in another $4 to my order to buy a box of cookies that was sent to American troops. Couldn't they have done the same? You still get money for the cookies and they go to a good cause.

I think they throw them away to maintain the outrageous value per box year after year.  If you were to see boxes of samoas kicking around the homeless shelters and soup kitchens, the next time one of these scouts tried charging $6 a box or whatever, you'd be EVEN LESS likely to buy them than you already are.  Kind of like when Prada burns their handbags to make room for next year's overpriced POS's

While it was a waste, I cannot see the argument in giving to the poor, homeless people that go to a food bank. My experience with those that use EBT (food stamps) is that they have no idea of nutrition. EBT is used for  Mountain Dew, chips, cookies, candy and prepared meals super high in sodium. Have cookies ever saved a starving person?

/even more if any were the new breakfast bars at $4.50 per box
//wife is a cookie mom

$3.50 a box? Around here they go for $5. My nieces ripped me off!

They are girl scouts, of course they did.

Girl scout cookies exist ONLY to rip people off.

Superjew: Cookies aren't food.

Maybe not to you, People WITHOUT food tend to need food even if it isnt of the top quality nutrition type.
