How can one be better than the other when they're all the same thing?

I normally loathe things of this nature, but I'm not going to lie, I find the Harlem Shake videos to be highly amusing.

I never thought it would be possible that there could be something even less funny and clever than "planking", but here we are....

It's the culmination of the worst parts of at least three different genres.

So...no doubt it's going to be huge and the big thing this coming Summer.

This meme is bad and anyone who likes it should feel bad.

2013-02-19 03:06:52 PM
This is the first of this meme that I even kind of laughed at and that's only because he grabbed his foot at the end and busted out the classic 7th grade white kid dance move.

From KYM:

On January 30th, 2013, video blogger uploaded an episode that opens with four people dressed in latex suits dancing to Baauer's "Harlem Shake".  On February 2nd, 2013, several parodies of DizastaMusic's video were uploaded by YouTubers TheSunnyCoastSkate and PHL_On_NAN, the latter of which would go viral on February 5th, amassing 300,000 views within 24 hours and prompting further parodies from other YouTubers shortly after.

On February 7th, YouTuber hiimrawn uploaded a version titled "Harlem Shake v3 (office edition)" featuring the staff of online video production company Maker Studios. The video instantly went viral, amassing more than 7.4 million views in the first week, as well as inspiring a notable subset of contributions from well-known Internet companies, including BuzzFeed, CollegeHumor, Vimeo and Facebook among many others.

Throughout the second week of February 2013, more than 4,000 "Harlem Shake" videos were uploaded to YouTube each day, according to YouTube's official trend report. By February 13th, approximately 12,000 "Harlem Shake" videos had been posted, gaining more than 44 million views.

I too love these. I bet I've watched at least a 100 of them in the last week. (Not all at once.)
In an unapologetic move of self-promotion I will share the one my TV show recently did, although the Daily Show's is much better. Still I enjoy this one (if only because I'm in it - and yes, I'm the host):

The Daily Show was good during the Bush years, but even towards the end it got stale.  Probably 2006 was the last time it was actually funny.  I have tried watching it since then and I don't even smile.  I don't see why people watch it religiously to this day, let alone go to the studio and hoot and holler every time they come back from a break.

I love this meme because it's short. I don't have time to sit though 1 minute long videos these days.

Here's my favorite:

My personal favorite

By the way, the guy in the chicken costume is probably going to be the #1 pick in the NBA draft. Which I think makes it that much more awesome.

They can be hit or miss, but when Jon hits, it's really good.  I only watch it for the news segments, mostly, but they occasionally have good "special reports" and interviews.

Knowing this bothered you, inexplicably, and your "stop liking what I don't like" made an otherwise crappy afternoon a little better.

Because there are a lot of easily-amused idiots out there with too much free time.

Pretty much the same reason for Fark's cat threads.

I have to say that I actually love this meme. it's just so ugly compelling to watch the 1 guy standing there dancing while everyone studiously ignores him, and then one later you're in a Hieronymous Bosch painting. I really enjoy the guerilla Dadaism of it all
