I love me some video games. But I have trouble calling anything I do in a video game as "bad ass".

The most worthwhile thing you can do with that game is not buy it.

What the hell does revengence even mean?

It's hard to be badass when your androgynous protagonist with a Christian Bale Batman voice wears high heeled platform shoes.

Or you could read the game manual. When I hear "X badass things you can do" I expect stuff like easter eggs, mini-games, or stuff you couldn't normally do in the game. This is just a list of moves you should know anyway through playing the game.

Has anyone played it yet? I just can't get past the name. I'm all for making up words, but "revengeance" just sounds so stupid.

I loved Metal Gear Solid.  Best Playstation game ever.  When the demo for MGS2 came out, I was in love.  Then I find out that the actual game has almost nothing to do with the trailer and that the game is literally a rehash of the same battles from MGS1 with the added bonus of having to listen to your goddamn girlfriend whine at you for not talking about your feelings while in the middle of a boss-fight.  Haven't played another Metal Gear game since.

I haven't been keeping up with games of late and actually thought that was just something subby made up to be funny.

One time in battlefront on iwo i sank a carrier, but was shot down over it. I parachuted down, shot ttwo men, then stole a plane, and managed to take off just as the ship was sinking under the waves. I could practically hear the indiana jones theme in my head. That was as close as i could call anything in a videogame "badass"

MGS3 Snake Eater will make you forget all about Raiden.  It's easily the best of the series, and it also has the added bonus of ret-conning MGS2s ending(which far too many people took literally).

I haven't played Metal Gear Rising, and I'm wondering why I should. It doesn't have Snake. It DOES have whiny-biatch Raiden as the protagonist, AGAIN. It doesn't have any of the stealth elements that are the whole goddamn reason that one plays Metal Gear games. As far as I can tell, it barely takes place in the same universe as the rest of the series, aside from inflicting the series' worst character on us again.

Anything was going to be a letdown after Guns of the Patriots. But really? This looks some shiatty Bayonetta clone. If they were going to wait six years to follow up MGS4, they might as well have just waited until the next generation of consoles came out, took advantage of the increased technical capabilities, and made another Metal Gear-style stealth game with a new engine and a better protagonist.

In all fairness, I've had this conversation:
"Wait, how'd you do that?"
"You hold X and then tilt the stick and release."
"I must have missed where it explained that one."
"It was in the manual..."
"My copy didn't come with a manual."
"The manuals are digital now, Ohki... you have to hit this little icon at the home screen"
"Oh..."

I feel like an idiot every time, but dagnabbit, I remember when you could actually hold manuals.

Uh, you play the game because, outside of Madworld, Platinum Games made one of the best beat 'em ups of the last decade (Bayonetta) and, at least based on the games I've played, the runaway candidate for the best third-person shooter ever made (Vanquish).  And yes, the game looks like a "shiatty Bayonetta clone" because it's being made by the same damn studio.

And to clarify my statement above, I am not actually asserting Madworld is any good.  Should have said "ignoring Madworld entirely".

Of course, the manual was necessary for Atari Raiders of the Lost Ark.

So they remade Bayonetta with one of the most annoying video game characters in recent memory. Tell me again why I should play this instead of just replaying Bayonetta. Because there doesn't seem to be any reason to play it as a continuation of the Metal Gear series.

Because video games, in spite of their superficial sameness, tend to be markedly different at the conceptual level, even within a series or even within a line of work from one development studio.  It's like saying "Why should I play Super Mario World?  I've already played Super Mario Bros. 3."  And from what I've heard so far, Revengeance is a pretty damn good game.  If you can't get over the fact that Raiden is a pain in the ass, you're doing yourself a disservice.  Is the game worth sixty dollars out of pocket?  I don't know if many games are these days, simply because you have such an inexpensive body of games to choose from through emulation and digital distribution.  But it's probably worth playing at some point.

Back in the SNES days I was that nerd that would go rent a game and then read the entire manual by the time my mom got us home. My favorites were always the character bios for fighting games.

This game hasn't been on my radar despite generally loving all things MGS (got my PS3 for 4 and Peace Walker), but I did like Vanquish which is the only Plat game I've tried. The good buzz leading up to it has me interested though, and the length of the game (most estimates are ~10 hours including retries) is pleasantly digestible. I find myself unable to finish modern games that take more than ~15 hours or so.

Just finished Dead Space 2 in just under that time and it was starting to get stale toward the end. Can't make it through modern RPGs and was never much of an online/MMO player. I like games like I did as a kid with an NES - get it, beat it over a week or so, move on. Of course, 90% of my VG time nowadays is spent with emulators playing Mega Man 2 or Mario World, can't remember the last game I bought that wasn't already 4-6 months old. Nicer for the wallet, I guess.

MGS5/Phantom Pain though.... ooooooooo. That flaming whale definitely got my attention. Kojima, you old rascal.

//Raiden something happened to me last Thursday when I was driving home. I had a couple of miles to go - I looked up and saw a glowing orange object in the sky, to the east! It was moving very irregularly... suddenly there was intense light all around me - and when I came to, I was home. What do you think happened to me?
