(New York Daily News)   Only spending can save us now. There is no debt problem. The economy is really in a recovery. Okay, the last one I made up. Good luck, we're all counting on you   (nydailynews.com) divider line 227

Obama: Well, funny you should ask I've got these programs...

RW: Y U no care about deficit?!

the concept is not very difficult to understand, subtard - you spend during lean times and pay it back during good times. it's how we got out of the great depression and created a postwar boom that lasted nearly 40 years.

Yes, because focusing on deficit reduction when the economy sucks is working out so well in the EU.

Indeed this would not be such a problem if SOMEONE had not engaged in massive tax cuts, an gargantuan unfunded mandate and two wars running up such a staggering deficit before presiding over the largest economic disaster in seventy years.  Not naming names.

This also assumes a whole lot of factors.

Right now, I'm all for spending, only if we do it in the right way: Spend by offering incentives to companies for opening new production here in the US. Scholarships and programs to help adults get training to go to work in skilled jobs that DON'T require a 4-year degree, but DO require specialized training.  Make more of a push to advertise those jobs and raise awareness of the training opportunities.  Spend some cash on revamping the higher education system and refocus it on skills training, replacing the SAT/ACT type tests with aptitude tests that help place students in programs geared towards their general natural abilities.

That's probably the easiest method to get where we need to go, and yes it involves spending. But it also involves a focus on getting people trained with marketable skills, and getting more focus on jobs that exist for those skills, while expanding our economy away from a service-based economy back towards a production economy.

The economy is threatening to fall back into recession.  What's the solution?  Why 750,000 job cuts!  That's guaranteed to cause job growth!

Republican logic.

Do you know what is driving the economy down?

Pessimism.

There is no reason at all why the economy should be in the shiatter.

We have come to a point where it is a matter of perception, the perception that the economy is shiat leads people to save instead of invest.

The Lion's share of the money from the cuts went to the investment class.

The GOP fought tooth and nail to keep that largesse flowing.

Obama fought for the middle class.

Thanks for reminding everyone.

He also increased our debt more in four years than bush did in eight.

How about no?

90% of America's long term debt can be put squarely at the foot of the GOP's disastrous policies over the last 30 years.

Bush kept wars off the record, brought the Medicare Part D bubble into being and presided over the largest financial clusterfark since the Great Depression. Obama inherited that shiatstorm and has been steadily working to improve it despite the historic levels of obstructionism from the Republican led Congress.

Bush bad
0bama worser.

How many foreign countries have we pulled out of since occupation?
How many aircraft carriers do we now have?
How many tanks sit in a desert waiting to be used?
Why do we need to subsidize Israel's expansionism?
Why do we need to protect Germany, England and France from the Soviet menace?

Answer any of these questions, subby, and you may understand where we can reduce spending.

I'd argue the large areas of growth are more due to technology innovations or more recently, bubbles than spending policy. However I agree that whilst trying to recover from man made economic dilemmas it's not advisable to stop spending as it tends to exacerbate the problem.

This needs to be in ads for every single farking congresscritter running for reelection in 2014 that refused to work on this. They are economic terrorists and need to be shown as such. *This* is not what we need to have. We need better people, real people, people who don't just go around talking about how we need to cut EVERYTHING because....the president is a democrat/black/dude?

Everyone who is disgusted by this conduct needs to get involved. Challenge your congressmen at every turn. Call them on this shiat when reelection comes around. Help campaign for their opponent. Just because the districts were gerrymandered to hell, doesn't mean we can't fix the system. Those that think we can't refuse to try. We may be in an uphill, losing battle, but damnit, if we don't try and fix this shiat, then the terrorists win. Domestic, economic terrorists that call themselves our representatives.

We have one shot at this to enact real, lasting change. I don't care if we're challenging Democrats or Republicans, whoever votes against stopping stupid shiat cuts like this should not have the ability to dictate policy for this country. We are Fark. The 4chan for intellectuals. We have the power of the internet to change the world for the better. We can do this and we must, in a larger sense, do this. We must prove to these asshats that we have a voice, and we will not stand idly by while they rape our country, wrapped in the flag and proclaiming the tenets of capitalism and democracy.

There IS a debt problem, but it's debt held by individuals and firms. Private debt towers over public debt. The government cannot involuntarily go bankrupt. It could, however, VOLUNTARILY go bankrupt, which is what not raising the debt ceiling would do. When Cheney said deficits don't matter, he meant exactly that, and that makes the Republican biatching about the deficit even worse. It's an excuse to cut social services. DO NOT allow these arguments to persuade you.

When Congresspeople are sworn in, they're given a secret training course on how the economy really works. It turns out that our currency actually attunes itself to the political party in charge of the Executive branch, and Republican money spends differently than Democratic money.  Democratic money is very sensitive, and it has performance issues around war debt.  Republican money is worth triple its value, and when it's channeled through our strategic network of Defense Contractors and Hedge Fund Managers, it enables these money-mages to maintain the shield that protects Earth from foreign meteors.  But when you bring this up with Economics professors in class one day, they chuckle nervously and call security on you!

Reduce spending on unproductive things, increase spending on productive things, raise taxes.

Unproductive things:  military, safety nets, useless infrastructure, bureacracy
Productive things: valuable education, necessary infrastructure, R+D

The vast majority of spending goes to unproductive things.

If the only important thing is unemployment and jobs, would we all be in favor of massively increasing the military industrial complex?  If we doubled the amount of money we spend on the DoD, would that be a good thing for our economy?  If not, why not?  And what makes other spending better than DoD spending?

The tax holiday just ended so everyone working is paying more.  My moms SS check was -6.3% for some reason.  The 'rich' and those with investments just got hammered pretty good 2 months ago.  And the Democrats only solution is to raise taxes again.

Now I don't support many of the things the Republicans come up with.  But who in the h3ll thinks raising taxes even more is a good idea?

Let's work the nonviolent approach first. We may have some luck. Now, that doesn't mean you can't shame them so badly the voters will vote for the other guy because "dear god, we can't vote for him/her!!!" so it could work.

I am, solely because I still believe we can work as a country still. I'm not willing to let this country fall apart after all we've managed to accomplish in our short run as a nation.  We're farking Americans, we're not supposed to give up because shiat gets tough. You can split if you want, I'm sure there are plenty of people who want to join you, but I'm gonna stay here and fight to keep us together. We can do it. We have the power. We have the ability and know how to make this work out for the best and the returns will be greater than anything we could possibly achieve separate. We can build this country back to it's former greatness, we can rebuild ourselves from the ashes of partisanship. And I will be there on the frontlines, a hammer in my hands and I shall try and rebuild what many have already left up the gods on Olympus to decide the fate on.

We're Americans for god's sake. We're not here to surrender to any hardship, we're here to bloody well fight to fix the damn thing to benefit us. And I'll rebuild, even if I'm the only bastard stuck fixing it. We can't keep taking the easy way out
