Said Mrs. Obama: "This is my midlife crisis." She added that she cut her bangs because she can't get a sports car and won't be allowed to bungee jump.

Well, apparently Biden *was* gonna let her borrow his muscle car to burn crazy 8s in the WH driveway but then the SS stepped in and told her no.

Buncha spoilsports, if ya ask me.

I prefer that over the usual midlife crisis of the crew cut and letting go.

What is it with the ridiculous right-wing meme that Michelle Obama is fat? I mean, it's not like some sort of Benghazi-style issue where you can obfuscate with fluff and dribble.... it's obviously, demonstrably nonsense.

I watched growing up the women moving to the burb's with their new husbands. They had long, beautiful hair. Then, they would get pregnant, and cut if off, short. It went with the new look they had as a fat, waddling mommy. It was the 70s, so there were a lot of Caroline Brady's out there, just with bigger asses.
The hair style would get smaller as they grew older, and their kids would have babies, and at that point, they would just be locked into a short perm. The husbands who were still virile and able to, would hook up with younger women with hair longer than their wives. The length of the hair being somewhat comparable to a stated youthfulness. But, having roots and relatives in the country, I was also able to observe the phenomenon in a more rural setting. Same length code, just different styles. The longer the hair, the bigger it must be. And in a rigidly evangelical community, the righteous girls would display their tresses in huge rollers in public on a Saturday evening, making sure all knew they were not farking on a Saturday  but saving their hair for Jesus. Those that did not, were branded hussies, and you just knew they were damned. Bangs are not universal. But in the rural climes they are defiantly more popular with the females.  They put them on the little girls because they look so cute, then refuse to stop wearing them in a desperate bid to retain shedding youth. The bangs get bigger as they age, and eventually, become the country comb-over. With the part being placed gradually further and further back and almost to the top center of the scalp. Far enough back that they use a maxwell house coffee can as a roller.
To bangs, I say, be damned. They are the mark of the beast.

Not a tea-head, and I don't think she's particularly pretty. She has her moments where she looks ok.
I hate being force fed that she is 'pretty'.

I think bangs only work as a contrast. You can't just give yourself some and then keep that hairstyle for a decade. You need to grow them out  again, then cut them again, and so on.

I, for one, am very okay that a woman does not have to be a traditional beauty queen Barbie in order to be married to the president of the US.  Sure, it's expected in other nations, but I'm ok with the idea that people just marry realistic looking people and it's not considered a character flaw or lack of political virility.

I agree. She takes on the role of First Lady nicely. I think she dresses great, and does the things that seems to be expected of the FIrst Lady.

She's beautiful, but it depresses me that we as a nation feel the need to have a discussion about how our First Lady looks.  She's a brilliant, educated, and effective woman.  I suspect people like to insult her appearance because she intimidates them, what with not being a bimbo and daring to look like she could kick most of our asses.

Really? You've been here long enough to know better. Someone goes missing, we talk about her looks. Female wins the Nobel Prize (pick which one) we talk about her looks. Woman goes on a shooting spree, we talk about her looks. The only way you could cry intimation/racism/special treatment/etc etc is if we didn't talk about her looks.

We talked about Laura Bush's looks! You want to claim she intimidates someone?

Notice how I'm not talking about Barbara Bush? Now that female does intimidates me. You can tell she's a take no bs matriarch.

All true, but acknowledging a thing doesn't make it any less depressing. As a woman of less than average attractiveness, it is particularly so.

Think of it as uplifting! We're treating her like everyone else.

And don't think of yourself that way. I've never seen you however I guarantee that you are at least in the top 40% of the sexually attractive people on this planet. You have damn near every single man on the planet beat (lets not talk about Nathan Fillion) and I would think you'd have good percentage of the females beat. So maybe in the top 20%!

Ok, I suck at motivation speaking. But never get down on yourself like that!
