(Gawker)   According to Jose Canseco, dinosaurs were able to fly because the Earth used to be larger so gravity was weaker. Turns out steroids shrivel your brain, too   (gawker.com ) divider line

Why are we caring what an old retired baseball player thinks about how science works?

Pure entertainment value from the stupidity?  We don't ask physicists or palentologists for baseball advice, why ask baseball players for palentology advice?

Pterosaurs aren't dinosaurs, Tardmitter. And it's obvious that Canseco has taken one too many bats to the head, too.

I may not be 100% right but think about it. How else could 30 foot leather birds fly?

Canseco is hawking testosterone in a vitamin on late night TV now.  With just one pill a day, a personal trainer, a tub of steroids, and lots of free time, you too can look like the Latin Conan that he is at age 50.

You can't explain that.

Oh yes he can.

Silverstaff: Why are we caring what an old retired baseball player thinks about how science works?

Because it's f*cking hilarious.  I suspect, however, that he was trolling.

On one hand, if the Earth were larger, in that it had a larger diameter, but did NOT have any more mass, then yes, the effects of gravity would be less at the surface than they currently are.

On the other hand, who the hell would care about scientific theory from an athlete with no pertinent training or expertise?

It's at least not the dumbest thing I've heard this week.  Hell, maybe eve today.

/Plus, even if the core was not at the center of the planet and "further from the land mass", the center of mass for the planet would still be in the center, else the Earth would have a damn wild rotation to it.

In Jose's case, his brain came pre-shrunk.

t already sort of does relative to the sun thanks to the moon's influence

True.. I was only thinking about Earth's axial rotation and it's solar orbit; for some reason I didn't think about the moon/Earth orbit.

Extra Credit (for anyone interested): do the effects of the Moon's gravity make an object or person on the Earth's surface weigh less when the Moon is overhead, and if so how much?

Does he really write this or is this like the "iron sheik" twitter account

Anybody with dinosaur knowledge can correct me, but I'm pretty sure Pterodactyl's weren't dinosaurs.

This level of stupidity should be painful.
