Lets see if I got this straight. We're eating so much meat, that farmers are having to use pesticides and fertilizers to grow enough grains to feed the cattle, which in turn pollutes the planet. So we're supposed to give up the meat, which would mean that us humans would now be eating all those grains we currently feed the cattle. How exactly does this help?

Except there's one fewer "layer" inefficiently using resources.  I'm not even talking about farming techniques, just going up the food chain inefficiently consumes energy.  That's why there are far, far more herbivores than carnivores.  If it's 16 lbs of corn to make 1 lb of beef then a human got four 4 ounce portions of beef.

I'm not an extreme "don't eat any meat" person, but meat requires a lot more resources to get x amount of food than it takes to get x amount from plants, especially in the larger animals, and cutting back would have some impact on resource allocation, though your idea of dealing with pollutants is a much more complete, though also much more difficult task.

Hmm. I never thought about it this way. Of course, the eating of carrots is just as evil as eating meat. I mean, who's to say that they don't feel pain just because they have no brains or pain nerves? It's the same sort of bigotry as eating pigs because they can't cuss. Truthfully I think it's more moral to eat human flesh (though I've never done so, I swear) because a human most likely did somebody a horrible wrong, intentionally or not, while it seems far-fetched even to me to try to hold a pig morally accountable for anything s/he does. You can't blame a pig for acting like a pig. Or maybe you can but because we don't understand their language we don't credit them with Reason (there's always been a lot of that going on), and one needs Reason to discern right from wrong in just about any value system I've ever heard of. (To discern right from wrong for oneself I mean, not merely recite the cliches inculcated by our betters.) A swinish human, on the other hand, probably deserves worse than simply being slain and digested. Straightforwardly and seriously, it's a shame that dumb animals must be proxies for the more deserving.

Nevertheless I will persist in eating meat, and one of my favorite meats is pork. That unlike many flesh crops the pig would gladly eat me if it could is part of the rationale; another is that it's easier to keep being an asshole. I see nothing wrong with eating humans apart from the increased chance of getting some form of illness. I am signed up to the register for human meat when the laws change and have offered my body to be eaten by others. I have eaten my pet. I have killed and butchered my own animals and found it good . I have eaten raw meat and it was good. I have done most of the "Well would you..." questions that vegetarians and vegans like to ask. Most of them have nowhere to go when I say that I HAVE eaten my pet, and eaten raw meat and also killed and butchered my own dinner.

I don`t want the animals or people to suffer though, there should be humane ways of killing the creature. I eat organic and free range and don`t buy cheap meat because the price offset is made up by the animal suffering.

I kept rabbits as a kid for the specific purpose of being taught the 'circle of life' by my parents. I named them, petted them, fed them, killed them, skinned them, prepared them, cooked them, and ate them - all by myself, at the age of 9. (not all on the same day, yeah?)
