(Daily Mail)   Garbageman saves puppy: 'This ole' doggy here was hollering, "Save me" I guess in dog talk. He was frozen stiff. 'I turned the heat on full blast. Now, every bag I dump I'm like, "Oh no, what's in that one?"   (dailymail.co.uk) divider line 60

That is a damn cute dog. I wish I'd stopped the video a few seconds before the end and when they mentioned the other two.

log_jammin: hero? he took a flea bag that no one wants out of a trash bag. That's not exactly what a "hero" does. That word has lost all meaning thanks to it being misused like this.

"Hero" has come to mean "someone to admire".  Originally, a hero was simply the protagonist of a morality tale - the first character to appear, or the focus of the story.  A hero could be an idiot, a coward, a criminal, or whatever.

NobleHam: Hero tag is inappropriate. Not being an awful person who would toss the puppy they just found in the trash into the compactor is not the same as being a hero.

I think it's appropriate. Isn't a hero someone who rescues someone else? This fellow rescued that dog from being crushed and gave it a good home. He;s more of a hero than some poxy football player or pop star.

INeedAName: This just in - anyone arguing about the use of the hero tag needs to get a life. And/or find something better to troll about.

You're posting on Fark and telling others they need to get a life? Classic! Vintage! Rare!

He is more of a hero than those people, but no, he didn't rescue someone or something, he refrained from harming something he found. He didn't jump into a frozen lake or walk over hot coals to save a puppy, he found a puppy in danger and he didn't callously toss it aside. I'm not denigrating his character, I'm just also not hyperbolizing it.

I think we should definitely dissect every aspect down to the most minute detail & lawyer everyone to death over the meaning of a word instead of just celebrating a good soul who did a good deed.

I bet the dog thinks he's a hero.

log_jammin: A Terrible Human: Tell me more about how the misuse of the hero tag on Fark.com has made the word hero lose all meaning.

CaptSS: I bet the dog thinks he's a hero.
