I saw a science program years ago and apparently great white sharks tend to not attack if you are facing them. The researches researched this with mannequins in weighted wet suits and the sharks only attacked from the back. So, one of the researchers went into the water when one shark was around and so long as he kept facing the shark it would try to circle around him, but as he turned to face the shark it kept on trying to circle. When a 2nd shark showed up he was able to keep facing them quick enough to prevent an attack. When a 3rd shark showed up he retreated into his cage. It was pretty damn cool to watch.

True. Well occasionally one goes predator on a human but its fairly rare.. That film is part of a trust based research project by Doctor Lynn Rogers. The world would be a lot safer place for black bears if more people understood them.

Jean-Michel Cousteau did this years ago. Evidently a great whites dorsal fin in the upper back area has no nerve endings. This allows you to pinch it without bothering the animal. She is right about bubbles from scuba bothering them. Cousteau free dove when he rode the shark. The shark was not in predator mode. When they are in predator mode they drop their pectoral fins and become lightening scary quick. Usually when spearos have shot some fish and you get some blood in the water.

Reminds me about:

the Scorpion and the Frog fable about a scorpion asking a frog to carry him across a river.
