Media critics at the spectacle, which is being widely seen as a harbinger of new chief Jeff Zucker's plans to add more sensational coverage.

Goddamnit.

You people can complain about CNN, but what else is a brutha supposed to watch?

Fox is out of the question, and so is MSNBC.

At least CNN isn't constant pundit ranting, or boring-ass shows about the prison population.

Everything sucks.

who said it's new?

CNN was among the sites refusing to cover the revolution in the middle east while fark was covering it.

Media coverage of the Triumph was more biased than the last election.

Yeah, there's not really a good choice for a 24-hour news channel at the moment.

I refuse to watch Fox for news, because you don't even know if what they're saying is even true.  Not to mention the spin that gets put on every damn thing.
MSNBC isn't nearly as bad as Fox News, since they actually tend to report facts, but it does seem like more often than not, it's showing pundits and not just straight news.
CNN has terrible anchors that make me feel like I'm watching Entertainment Tonight try to report on national politics.  It's a complete embarrassment compared to what it used to be.

That's a bright spot, but what insanely high-level tier of a cable package will I need to actually see it? The Triple Double Platinum Expanded Plus Digital Expansion Bonus package?

I wonder if BBC News has a 24 hour cable network. Hmm...if only there was some easy way I could look that up....

The next time someone tells you that media doesn't report what's REALLY important (eg. how come everyone else isn't interested in the things I am interested in), show them this.

Makes me feel good that I got rid of cable two years ago.

Are you concerned about the quantity - and quality - of nice things we've been able to have?  Where are our nice things going, and who is to blame?  Tune in to CNN tonight at 7pm for full coverage!

Can't wait for the new pope coverage. Is that white smoke or did a cardinal just fart?

2013-02-18 02:54:51 PM
I'll just add this to my list of why I never want to take a cruise on a large cruise ship:

1) possible crash into island/coral reef because overly macho captain is showing off
2) rape and theft that never gets prosecuted
3) disappearing passengers that are never found
4) norovirus
5) stuck with 5,000 other idiots for days on end
6) feces all over the ship

uncleacid: Can't wait for the new pope coverage. Is that white smoke or did a cardinal just fart?

Damn, now I'm having flashbacks to Wolf trying to figure out what the smoke in the driveway of the Dorner cabin was.  At one point, he actually said "I don't know what is causing the smoke.  It could be nothing, or it could be something significant."  Thanks, Wolf.  That helps a lot.

Ummmm,... did you just really type out "how come" in place of where the word "why' would go? Do people actually talk like that? Not trying to be too much of a jerk here, but, really?! It's time for Federal regulations on the use of "News" on television.

That would probably leave Al Jazeera and PBS left, then the mouth-breathers would whine about "Big Government", "Liberal Media", and "Terr'ists".

CNN is benefitting from Fox News telling its audience to go to hell. Even the low info GOP voter would rather watch hours of a floating Piss Factory than hours of Karl Rove

I typed "how come" as a stereotype.  Whenever a sentence begins with "how come" you can be certain that the rest of it will be stupid.

People who biatch about the media not reporting the right things are stupid.

I never gave it any thought before but now that you mention it...
could "how come" be some sort of verbal shorthand for "how (has it) come (to be that)..."?

/I'm not curious enough to research the etymology of the phrase, but I am curious enough to post my random musings on Fark.

Exactly. Fox News is too truthy. MSNBC thinks I'm too stupid to form my own opinion.  CNN is a shadow of its former self with crappy "news" people - Piers Morgan?  Come on!

I do like Morning Joe at times. I put up with Wolff Blitzer because he's the lesser of three evils.

Hey newsies:  Just report the facts and I'll decide what I think about them. I really don't need you to slant to the left or right for me.

After watching a little BBC and Al Jazeera, I can't stand CNN or Fox News.  CNN/Fox don't report on anything important anymore.  Who cares what brand of water some politician drinks? Fox was running one of those "NEWS ALERT" banners and all that happened was the Dow closed up .5%.  Big farking deal.

radiobiz: Hey newsies: Just report the facts and I'll decide what I think about them.

It isn't that easy.  They could report all the facts but it would take a long time and be really boring.  As soon as you start leaving out facts so someone doesn't have to watch news about one thing for hours on end, you start getting spin.  Even if you report all the facts, how you report them will always add spin.

Short answer: yes. Now shut up.

NPR is one of the last bastions of true journalism in America. While the 24 hour TV news monster slowly eats itself to death, NPR quietly continues to competently and intelligently cover domestic and world affairs, politics, economics, the arts, and more with professionalism and dignified objectivism.

Back when I studied journalism we called that bias. The goal was to reduce bias as much as possible. You can never eliminate it entirely because even the choice of descriptive words introduces bias but it was the impossible goal we strived for. I guess that doesn't matter anymore.

Yeah yeah, my lawn. Off.
