Setting themselves up for some real disappointment.  If they ever become the majority party again.

Who do they imagine would be a superior SecDef than Hagel? They'll have to confirm a nominee eventually.

I'm sure McCain thinks there is a certain Senator from Arizona who's name rhymes with McPain who would be perfect for the job.

They'd prefer Obama nominate the most pro-Israeli Jew in America.

Well LAPD does have plenty of air assets.

There is no legitimate reason why Hagel should not be confirmed.

In July 2007, Hagel was one of three Republican Senators who supported Democratic-proposed legislation requiring a troop withdrawal from Iraq to begin within 120 days.

The Reps are still buthurt that Hagel wasn't a big enough cheerleader for the Iraq war.

John McCain proves that pigs can fly.
Well, crash.

I watched McCain Sunday morning. He was an angry, frustrated old man. Hagel said some mean things about President Bush, so now its payback time.

The US Senate is about as mature as a Middle School girls locker room.

On the upside, this might finally kill the "filibuster."

I put that in quotes because it's not  really a filibuster.

I wonder if they are acting like this because they have seen the numbers and know they will never be the majority party again. These actions then become their only way to hold any kind of power and have little long term ramifications.

They seem confused whether Hagel will be in charge of US defense or Israels.

fark it, lets just nominate him to Secretary of Israeli defense.

No, this is all about Hagel betraying the GOP and a personal vendetta on McCain's part.

this has nothing to do with policy. the republican party is holding america's national security hostage because chuck hagel rubbed them the wrong way a few years ago.

It doesn't even have to do with being butt-hurt.
I was watching LOd the other night and he and Chris Hayes made a point I hadn't thought of before:
The way the Senate is set up, you only have so much time to get anything done, with only working a few weeks a month. Every hour a Republican can eat up on BS is one less hour Dems can try to use for something substantial. All this is just to try to run the clock out and block anything from happening.

If I recall correctly, it was World Net Daily's own beloved Jerome Corsi that said POW McCain was getting blowjobs at the Hanoi Hilton while Hagel was out busting his ass and collecting purple hearts.

Adult supervision.

What Republicans are doing is constant delay. If anything can be done to waste Senate time the GOP does it. And if it obstructs a little, then they double down on it.

Republicans filibuster a secretary-of-defense nominee from their own party. McConnell once said Hagel is one of the most respected foreign-policy voices in the Senate. McCain once said Hagel would make an excellent secretary of state. They they fight against him as if he were treason on parade. Why? To waste time. That's their agenda. Delay everything so nothing gets changed and their rich employers keep doing great while everybody else gets farked.

McCain will finally get his wish:   Hagel as Secretary of Defense.

/ Actually only 1/2 his wish; He wanted Hagel to be SecDef under President McCain.

Jews voted for Obama in huge numbers.  He won like 2/3rds of the Jewish vote.   The Republicans don't want a pro-Israeli Jew.  They want a neocon Christian that is pro-Israeli and not pro-Israeli like the last elections in Israel, but the one before that when the real ultra-right wing conservatives won.    Republicans insist on being more pro-Israel than the actual citizens of Israel do.
