If the Hawks can get a point tomorrow, I will be at the game where they go for the NHL record (for most games with points to start a season).

I boldly predict the Oilers will abso-f*cking-lutely PWN 24th spot this year.

Suck it, numbers 25 through 30.

We're #22! And fluctuating wildly! But at least they beat the Rags and Devils after that ugly 5-game losing streak. I'll be missing this afternoon's game but I feel like it's a huge one.

/Let's Go Islanders

As a Wings fan, there's been little to get excited about during the regular season for the past 20 years, so it's kind of fun this year since the team is apparently going to be in a dogfight just to make the playoffs.

Have your fun this year, haters. The Wings have tons of cap space and a lot more freeing up after the season. We'll be at the top of the league again next year.

The Blackhawks are going to come back to reality before the end of the season. They're not nearly as good as Hawks fans think they are.

Look at their roster. The Hawks just happen to be the team that was most prepared for the regular season. Once the other teams get their legs, the Hawks will fall significantly.

Bruins deserve to drop after that third period in Buffalo on Friday... Terrible.

The defense looked a bit tighter and the passing was less sloppy against the Jets yesterday. Nice game winner by Marchand, too.

Overall, still please with the way the season has gone so far for the Bruins. Don't know why they think the Power Play is "curious"... It's sucked so far this year and they won the Cup in 2011 with a shiatty Power Play, as well. if anything, a shiatty Power Play is the norm in Boston.

The upcoming Tampa Bay match up should be good.

Eeehhh...we'll see.  A point less than Jersey with two games in hand, two less than Pitt with three in hand.  The Buffalo thing was no good, but still.

Could be true, but still sounds like Detroit butthurt. I'd be pretty bitter too though if I rooted for a team from that wasteland, so you have my sympathy, I guess.

Not to be Capt. Obvious, but if the defense can contain St. Louis and Stamkos, I think the Bruins will be OK.

The series against Tampa Bay in 2011 was on of the best series of that playoffs, in my opinion... The Final against Vancouver was good (of course), but for a pure demonstration of great skill and defensive hockey, the ECF was outstanding that year.

Yeah, no complaints about the start, that's for sure.

Nice seeing Jay Pandolfo in a bruins' sweater, too... Though, he's probably going to have a bigger impact down in Providence with the youngsters.

Um...their roster is deep and riddled with stars.  Toews, Kane, Sharp, Hossa for starters (4 all-star caliber players on first two lines), then you have a bunch of fairly good role-players and young up-and-comers.  And Keith, Seabrook, Hjalmarsson make a really nice defensive corps.

The Islanders are bad, but they're the volatile kind of bad that can win games 5-1 against good teams. Their defense is abysmal, but their offense is amazing and if you can score a lot and keep puck possession and get lucky enough to get an above-average game from your goalie, you can cover for your horrible defense in any one particular game.

The problem is of course that this is not a recipe for success over a playoff series, or even over any stretches in the regular season to make the playoffs. So they are a bad team, you need to be solid up and down the roster to be a good team. But they're a bad team that'll take down a game 5-1 every so often, even against good teams.

The Senators have been cursed in every way imaginable. 40% of the payroll is on the IR, and we are getting absolutely no bounces. Beyond that, we're are in the bottom 5 in terms of PP time - PK time.

So yeah, this game is already over.

Yes, the veteran presence of Kyle Farking Quincey has been tainting the rest of the defence. Lashoff has been solid in my opinion. White is Meh, at best. Ericcson has been mediocre. Brendan Smith needs to get healthy, seems that he is the only one that can make a pass.

I say the wings must take a run at Tyler Myers SOON. If they do not make a major change soon, then the playoff streak is in serious jeopardy.

Oh, absolutely... The Bruins have a good team with a lot of depth. The adjustments will be made. Not really worried about a few games here and there. If they can stay mostly consistent and mostly healthy going into the playoffs, I like their chances.

That was an awesome series, but the Bolts are crashing and burning right now.  Eeking out a win against the Panthers?  Very big deal.  That type of win doth not a downward spiral stop.  And as you said, I'm not gonna sweat a few games here and there; the B's are looking pretty solid as a whole right now.

(Only thing about this season that worries me is that the mid-to-late season slide that seems to be par for the course lately is now scheduled to hit around playoff time.  But hell, it's too early for all that.  Just keep playing solid, and we'll see how it comes out.)

I haven't been ale to see a Sabres game yet this year. Are they really as bad as their record makes them look?

2013-02-18 02:59:27 PM
I was prepared to complain about the Blues dropping a spot after a 3-0 road trip that included wins against Detroit and Vancouver, but then I realized that they're going to send Jake Allen back down next week when Halak comes back...which means Brian Elliott is going to get some net time again.  Oh, and that they frankly stole that game from Vancouver last night.  It's a miracle that the Canucks only scored one goal in the third period.  I don't know, maybe it's from playing the hectic pace, but that team really isn't playing a consistent 60 minutes on any given night (unless it's consistently bad, like that third game against Detroit).
