Nothing says contrition like mentioning divinity and the Bible to pre-emptively block anyone questioning your morality.

I could go into my usual rant about The Family but it hardly seems worth it.  Suffice it to say, Sanford and his Family allies believe that they were hand-picked by God to do His good work on earth, and their their moral lapses are irrelevant.  They live by a different moral standard.

And that is some of the most dangerous thinking I can imagine.

Remember when Mark Sanford and John Ensign, both adulterers and both members of The Family, called on Bill Clinton to resign?

Second chances indeed.

What an embodiment of American values, amirite?

Jenny Sanford didn't see fit to give him a second chance, but there are 16 guys running for the District 1 vacancy.  Chances are, this being SC and all, that 8 of those are actually crazy people.  Among the rest you have a bunch of SC GOP good ol' boys with skeletons in their closet that are no doubt ready to be pried free.  Sanford has name recognition and a reputation as a serious fiscal conservative.  That he cheated on his wife and was dumped by her is a more realistic problem to try and brush off than "I went on TV to get all mushy about my Argentinian girlfriend but now I'm with my loving wife 4-ever!"

exick: Nothing says contrition like mentioning divinity and the Bible to pre-emptively block anyone questioning your morality.

It is tiresome boilerplate.  There's another guy's commercial that takes 30 seconds to say that he had parents, has a wife, is a lawyer and thinks that church is really important.  Oh, and "freedom" too.  Nothing of substance or even politics.

Yeah, good luck.

Yes.  However, his disdain for us is nothing compared to the status quo in this state.

Diogenes: Mark Sanford thinks he's just like King David.

Jenny Sanford made a good decision to kick him to the curb then, because Mark apparently forgot to keep reading the rest of the David & Bathsheba story.

You know, the next couple of verses where Bathsheba's kid dies almost as soon as it's born, and his family descends into a madness of brothers raping sisters and fratricide.

Well, we all know how cherry picking from the Bible works.

And I do fault Jenny for some things.  I fault her for not trusting her instincts in the first place, and declining to marry him.  He only married her for the politics, too.  And she suspected as much.

I hope she kicked Chuck Colson in the nuts when he tried to get her to stay with Mark.

Fark this guy. I realize its too late for him to disappear with dignity but he could at least be decent enough to keep his face off the tv for the rest of his life. Then again, apparently he couldn't.

Not even remotely true. Congress is bad, but to white knight Sanford? That's just wrong.

You may be right, but I assure you that at best I'm "dark-gray knighting" Sanford.  Politicians from SC specifically are just so freaking terrible!  He'll get votes because of his name recognition and the field will be full of terrible candidates.  The same people that made Nikki Haley look like a shooting star in the gubernatorial primaries, you know?

I guess I should be paying attention to this, as I just got shifted to District 1 for this last election from Jim Clyburn's district.

I used to live in Charleston (but haven't for 20 years now), so I'm curious.. what do you think Colbert's sister's chances are?

How this guy can leave the house without hanging his head in shame, let alone be a viable candidate for office, is a crystalline reflection of the cesspit the GOP has become. If they think you can win an election there is no unforgivable sin in the servvice of Resisting Tyranny.

The Bestest: I used to live in Charleston (but haven't for 20 years now), so I'm curious.. what do you think Colbert's sister's chances are?

As long as she's generally known as "Colbert's sister," I'd say it is about on par with "Cubs win World Series... in 2012."  Charleston is liberal for South Carolina, but the redistricting has made it more conservative for the House race by cutting off the Clyburn-supporting sections of Berkeley county and adding some of Joe "You Lie" Wilson's former district.  If she's not willing to prove herself a Bachmann-level crusader for right-wing causes, she can't win.  And even if she could, being Colbert's sister would still be a stain on her.

There is no Democratic party support in this state to speak of.  Dick Harpootlian, state Dem chair, is an embarrassment and largely symbolic of the party in general in this state.

As a graduate of a certain formerly all male educational institution in that city and a democrat, I can vouch for the truthiness of this statement.

To be fair, I didn't read TFA because I don't want to burn up my few Post and Courier freebies for the month on something I could piece together from the comments.  Did he actually mention "family values" or any other code for the same?  That would be hilariously over-the-top BS!

He's always seemed to me much more about cutting spending than anything else... I don't recall much derp out of him while he was the governor except when it came to $$$.

Absolve?  I wouldn't vote for any of the three if they were running in my district.  However, pretending that having an affair is even remotely the same as lying about an affair under oath is pretty silly.

You're kinda surrounded by SC and ocean there.. unless you wanted to merge with Bermuda or something.
Well, there's also the 50 states redrawn thing that was linked a few days ago, but looking at that map, that'd make the situation even worse for you.

/It kinda amazes me that Joe RIley is STILL mayor after all these decades
