(Short List)   The trailer for the Hannibal TV show is actually pretty good. Let's just hope NBC is still a thing in April   (shortlist.com) divider line 38

It'll get eaten in the ratings.

Meh. Another police/detective show. And NBC wonders why it's getting slaughtered in the ratings.

I'm really enjoying "Elementary" but I do have to admit if it wasn't Sherlock Holmes, I doubt I'd be watching it.

It would be just another gimmicky "genius notices the smallest details" type detective show.

Goddammit. I was hoping for a historical drama about the second Punic War. That would be awesome.

Mayybe with a little e"inspiration" from Dexter thrown in there (police support worker by day, serial killer by night). Also, points of for the re-booting instead of maybe going for a nifty 70's setting. Major FAIL for no shots of the mentioned Gillian Anderson, in her perfect beauty.

This could have potential, if done right, and if only mildly successful.  A season or two to figure out what Lecter is doing besides assisting the police could be cool.... 7 seasons, probably more than 3 would be stretching it, though.

There is a hit show about zombies. Why would the Hannibal Lecter comedy hour surprise a world full Civic owners?

Once you see the quality crime shows cable has had everything on the networks just looks like shiat in comparison. We need a public service message for the technologically impaired: "You no longer have to put up with CSI:Chattanooga purely because 'There's nothing else on'.

It's a Bryan Fuller creation, so i'm intrigued, but it's obviously not his usual comedic style.  Unless that trailer was being VERY misleading...

Of course, being a Bryan Fuller show, it will last no longer than 2 seasons before being canceled.

Sadly, our chances of seeing that died when HBO canceled Rome.  Yes, I know it happened before, but Rome was such a money pit that no network will go there again for twenty years.

But it's not Sherlock Holmes at all, except for the names. It's not a terrible show. I have it on because it follows Person of Interest.

I guess being a cop isn't cool anymore, they're all police "consultants" now. Holmes, Psych, The Mentalist, etc.

I thought angels were going to be the new vampires because for a while there seemed to be a shows popping up that had an angel theme all over the place. But I was wrong. Psychopaths are the new vampires. You have The Following, The Cult, Bates Motel and now Hannibal. The cast looks good and the trailer seem interesting but this is NBC. They never want to go dark enough out of fear of turning away viewers. A watered down Hannibal would be a bad idea. But, hey, maybe I'll be wrong and it will be scary. I hope.

People love detectives because they're not police.  Remember that Holmes really started the detective fiction genre (yes, I know EA Poe created it), so all detective shows trace their roots back to Holmes.  It's just that TV writers have started going back to the source (Elementary, Sherlock, House, Luther, etc) recently.

How can Bates Motel be a series? A weekly show about a kid and his vaguely Oedipal relationship with his mother? I'm not feeling it. Hannibal has pretty thin premise as well.

I think Bates has a chance, as they're starting with the kid young enough that he'll have time to grow into the Norman we all know and love.  And as The Following keeps reminding us, serial killers are made, not born.

But we all ready have 'The Following' and its plummeting ratings for our serial killer fix. I watched the first two episodes while keeping an eye on how it was doing in viewership. Fox is going to yank that puppy off the air like they always do to shows that need more time to build an audience.

I didn't know The Following was tanking. Too bad... I give it a solid 4/5, with one point deducted only for its story-interrupting abuse of flashback scenes.

Though I'm not sure how long it would potentially last as a series based on its current premise. It might have worked better as a mini-series.

Seriously, do we need to start this again?

The Following so wants to be scary but it just isn't. There's no tension. Not in the script. Not in the direction. Not in the acting. And a thriller with no tension fails on everything. You know that the Followers are going to get caught. You know the kid is going to be safe. And everything the writers do is telegraphed. Like, c'mon, it's so obvious that the FBI agent is a Follower. That show needs major rewrites as in kill the three twenty something Followers NOW.

Which is it?
1) A really small pool of writers in hollywood so all the network shows are the same.
2) Corporate espionage where all the networks troll each other's show ideas and try to be first.
3) Combination of both.

I think Angels still have a while to go in the rotation before they become the oversaturated theme character du jour again. They had their heyday in the late 80s, though, so give it a couple more years... probably once someone decides it's time for a  Highway to Heaven reboot.

You're kidding me right?  Their chemistry is the best thing about the show.  IMHO they should axe Kevin Bacon.  Whenever he, or his mistress, or the main killer are on I about fall asleep.  Kill off the adults and have the show focus on the bisexual threesome killing a person a week while raising the next breed of serial killer (the kidnapped kid.)  Now there's a show.

With the right spin, you could make Highway to Heaven a story about a serial killer.

I have very mild hope for this series for two reasons:

-Gillian Anderson
-Will Graham was my favorite part of the "Lecter" books, even though he was featured in just one.  I hated Clarice.

Unfortunately, the best Will Graham has already been done: William Peterson in Manhunter.  Then they remixed the role just a little bit for him to play on CSI.

Yeah, I'd be depressed when Dido kills herself, then the Romans salt the earth. Also, white people killing brown people, you know they'll work in the annoying social commentary.

I'd prefer a TV series on the Great Khans. Seeing Genghis build that mountain of human skulls where the sultanate of Khwarezm used to be would be pure TV gold.
