Why not? They're leading their division and are third in the Western Conference. At the moment, they're a pretty good bet.

She started out with $50 million, lost $14 million but won $1 billion? And she's broke? Somewhere in there she also lost a billion or so, but the article doesn't make it clear. My math ain't that good, but there's something off here.

Radiolab had a neat story about brain damage, dopmine and casinos.  The person in question here is garbage for stealing from a charity, but the story is interesting nevertheless.

When gambling heavily, it's not at all uncommon to wager a given amount of money several times over-- betting it, winning it back, 'treading water', etc. I may walk into a place with $100, leave with $100, and will have bet $1000 over the course of a night. Expressing her losses this way is confusing and inaccurate, but it makes for a much sexier story than "Former Mayor loses $14 million in local Indian casinos". It's like that cop math you read about in drug articles.
