And take her booze, her drugs, her car (multiple ways, there), all the rope, turn off her electricity, the knives, the razor blades, and cut off the water to her bathtubs.

If she has a life with such advantage, yet she really and truly set on killing herself, I can't see a way of stopping her. I just want to stop the assholes that kill pets, kids, etc on their way out.

OK, I'll wait for the punch line.
Again, why would you think that because Mindy McCready killed herself that Blake Shelton would divorce his wife, Miranda Lambert, and put himself back on the market?

Oh, and for all the LOL IT'S COUNTRY MUSIC WHO CARES people... what she performed wasn't country, it's badly done pop music with violins (they don't call 'em fiddles anymore, because that's too country).

Real country will not be found on your FM dial, or in the soundtracks of bad movies. Real country sounds nothing like the FM-Friendly Pop Country.

Whatever the dead chick sang was not real country.

I believe in mercy killing, euthanasia, whatever you want to call it. I remember Terri Shiavo's inglorious end where she was basically starved to death slowly. I remember it and feel utter disgust at the moral cowards who can't bring themselves to legislate to recognize that a right to death with dignity and minimum suffering is something we should extend to people and not just just pets.

Hell, I was defending HST's decision to end his own life when that occurred.

That issue has nothing to do with sensible gun laws that remove guns from homes where people are a danger to themselves and others.

Why is HST okay and she's not?

They both could have lived a lot longer. Neither wanted to.

If it's about the dog, who cares? Thousands are killed every day because people don't want them anymore, or they're found on the streets, or breeders see little imperfections in their markings and cull for genetic purity.

Happiness is arguably the most valuable commodity in the world and here is more proof that fame and fortune can't buy it.  I think most/all of us know at least a few people that are "poor" by U.S. standards but are as happy as can be.  Not true for the Kurt Cobains or Mindy Mcreadys of the world.

I believe HST was in his right mind when he made his decision and I believe the departed Ms Cready was not.

The right medication, the talking cure, rehab, something might have gotten her through this time.

I could be wrong, of course.

Or they'll spend their lives sorry that their mother was in so much pain and glad that she doesn't hurt anymore.  Suicide isn't about the survivors, I don't know why survivors always make it all about them.  The person they loved was hurting with no end in sight and now that person doesn't hurt anymore.  The survivors should be happy about that much and respect their loved one's decision.

I figure after three or four tries, they're really not just crying out for help. There's something inherently different about their unique operating system that wants to shut itself down, and intervening only makes it worse for them.

You say "mental illness," I say, "non-viable genetic variation."

While I now believe you know what you are talking about, and you are speaking from experience, you still don't know what they will grow up feeling. They may feel the way you say they will. She also had a long history of drug/alcohol problems, suicide attempts, legal issues and mental health issues that led to the kids to be taken away from her. The final bout of depression after the suicide of her boyfriend is also known about by her family, friends and the public in general. I think (but don't know) that they are going to figure that out pretty quick. Her youngest will have no memories, and her oldest barely will.

Basically, I just hate when people say "fark them or "they were selfish" when suicide happens.

I take it from the tone of this thread that we are still entirely way to immature as a society to take mental illness seriously.  fark the mentally ill, right?  It's only your brothers, your parents, and very likely, many of you yourselves.  They should just suck it up and get over it, right?

gadian: The survivors should be happy about that much and respect their loved one's decision.

Lots of "shoulds" in there should be, but ain't.

People go to funerals in general to compete for attention and power in the affected microsociety. There's no other reason for people to stand around staring at a dead person in a coffin. People will talk behind one another's backs saying things like, "No, she's faking it. She's not as hurt as *I* am!" Judgments fly all over, regardless of the cause of death. "She's only crying for the cameras! I loved him more than she did!"

With suicides, though, there's a special empowerment. People who only knew the deceased peripherally will speak right up and say, "You should have done something! Something's *wrong* with you! You're going to have to live with this! Your relative is burning in HELL right now and it's YOUR fault!"

It's basically what we all know -- People tend to be assholes and attention whores.

ZeroCorpse: Wow...  Just... Wow. What a sucky life she had.

Drug abuse? Check.
Sex video? Check.
Dead boyfriends? Check.
Several suicide attempts? Check.
Several kids out of wedlock? Check.
Dead before 50? Check.

I feel sorry for everyone involved with her. She seems like she was a real mess, and despite having shiatloads of money and fame, she never got the help she needed and she was probably surrounded by enablers and assholes who let her self-destruct.

I almost feel sorry for her, too, but the fact that she had it all and couldn't find a way to push through  for her kids makes me feel like everyone's better off this way. She was hurting, and now her pain is over. Her kids might have a better chance now than they did with her... And that's the real tragedy here.
