No. There was no reason for McReady to kill herself. She could afford rehab, psych care, and a semi normal life for her kids.

Unless of course she WAS responsible for her boyfriend's death. That is only speculation though.

you have never battled severe depression have you? I have. It's the hardest thing.

You're still alive. And if you killed your dog before killing yourself you would suck.

Typically someone shoots the dog/kids/spouse if that person feels they won't be taken care of when the shooter is dead.  I'm not saying it's right, but it is born out of a kind sentiment.  Trying to spare someone pain is a kind sentiment, even if wholly selfish or completely wrong.  The person already might not be in the right state of mind, so, why would they be thinking clearly about this?

I'm not doubting that she was a celebrity - obviously she was well known in the country music world - but I work in entertainment and read the trades every day, and I'd never heard of her. Although all of the country artist names sound alike to me.

You have no idea what you're talking about. A person with clinical depression is like someone with cancer. The world would be a slightly better place if more people would realize this. People don't do rational, normal things when they're mentally disturbed. I know someone who committed suicide -- we all knew it was only a matter of time before the mental illness won. There was nothing that could be done, and it wasn't their fault.

2013-02-17 11:01:21 PM
Can't say I'm surprised, I don't even like country music and I still knew of her as "the country singer who's constantly having shiat go badly in her personal life."

Newsflash--those who are suicidal are usually not thinking of anyone other than themselves.  Again, having children does not automatically make one a better person.  I feel for both those kids, particularly the youngest one who will go through life knowing that BOTH HIS PARENTS committed suicide.  People suck.

I'm sorry, but your lack of compassion regardless of anonymity on any internet site - particularly "one renowned for its snark"-truly displays your issues with mental illness.  And before you flip that ol' lame reply of this being the internet and how I should just 'deal with it' mumbojumbo,  just remember that what's good for the goose, is good for the gander.  The freedoms of "internet" commentary work both ways. What separates them is ironically the good natured, from the bad.

I have a loved one whose parent was bipolar and stopped taking their medication. It's something most people with mental illness have to deal with -- their illness tricks them into believing they're "better" and they stop taking the meds. She called her kid, told her she was going to kill herself and that it was the kid's fault, and then she killed herself. She was not a bad person. She loved her kid. But she was sick, and were it not for her illness, she would never have done what she did. She and others who go through this deserve our compassion and understanding.

But this is the Internet -- the greatest place to see people's mental issues on full display, where folks project their own problems in life at total strangers on message boards. Telling me to kill myself landed you on my ignore list. I hope you feel better.

You know what...Fark you and your mental illness. As soon as someone commits MURDER, all my sympathy for their "illness" goes right out the window. That is sad.

That person didn't kill her kids, her dog, her spouse... That is my point. I have no sympathy for anyone that is selfish enough to bring harm on an innocent because they are sick.
Yes, I do have some disdain for someone that is blessed with riches and talent that kills themselves, but I'd still have some sympathy for the disease. Kill the dam dog though? Buh bye. Have fun in whatever hell there may be.
