From Wiki:

Barker spent more than 11 weeks in hospitals and burn centers. Addled by medications, Barker asked how Baker and Still were doing for two months, never remembering the answer. Barker had 16 surgeries: blood transfusions that lasted 4-8 hours and numerous skin grafts. "There were times when they were talking about amputating my foot because I didn't have enough skin on my body for my grafts," he said. Barker also developed, made worse by the intense guilt he felt knowing Still wasn't supposed to be on the plane. On September 21, Dr. Fred Mullins, medical director of the Burn Center reported that Barker sustained second and third degree burns on his lower body and torso and was expected to fully recover within a year.

If anyone has a legitimate reason to fear flying - it's that guy.

You can't blame the guy, and anybody outside of North or South America should know better than to expect him to fly.

DJ AM, who survived that flight with fewer injuries than Barker ended up falling off the wagon and OD'ing less than a year later.

And Barker was convinced that he had to stop being a vegetarian to help his body bulk up and recover.

So, yeah, if I were him I'd never consider getting on an airplane again.

/they could always Mr. T him.

They will probably take Atom Willard. He always seems to be the "go to fill in drummer".

They're taking Brooks Wackerman from Bad Religion. Which I'd actually love to see.

I used to work with a guy who walked away from an airliner crash in Bangalore - probably IA 605 in 1990 - then (during the time we were co-workers) got his small-plane license, rented a plane in Honolulu, island-hopped to Molokai or somewhere, and flipped it on landing.

[Ironic] We worked at an air-travel dot-com.

/500+ takeoffs and landings so far as a passenger, 1 aborted takeoff roll with full reverse thrust and brakes
//other than that, just the usual farkload of delays for mechanical problems, weather, etc.

How's that work for a band like Blink? Barker's one of the better drummers out there, right? All there songs seem to revolve around him with the other two pretty much just strumming chords.

2013-02-17 11:25:26 PM
Couldn't they do a live hologram thingy beamed over the net?
A holo-drummer sitting on stage may not look all that different from the audience pov.
They could use the money they were going to spend on him for travel and hotel towards hologram money.
/what rock star doesn't have hologram money?
//I mean, announce they will be doing that, not try to fool anbody

Well, they're not just taking some regular Joe off the street. Brooks has played with them before, and is the drummer for Bad Religion full-time. He also plays with Tenacious D and a few other projects. He'll hold his own I'm sure.

Avoid the milk. Trust me it's drugged and you'll end up on the plane anyway.

I'm surprised Bad Religion isn't touring with their new album right now. Is Graffin teaching this semester or something?

He probably discovered Omegle and Chatroulette. I'm surprised he stepped away from his webcam long enough to record anything.

He's touring with Against Me! and recording drums for the new album since Jay Weinberg left the band.

He's morphing into Iggy Pop.

I've seen blink twice. Travis' solos at the end were deffinitely major highlights, suks for Austraila but i understand why

2013-02-18 01:51:25 AM
Oh, and  FTFA:I hope to come to Australia again some day, perhaps by ship if need be.  Unfortunately there wasn't a boat that worked with the schedule this time around.

And honestly, given that cruise ships lack central oversight or regulation  and of late seem to like having fires that leave them drifting crippled, would you really want to spend that long on one?  Maybe if you got  lots of stops along the way, but that first leg from California/Mexico to Hawaii is a doozy.  Anyway springtime is when the ships are repositioning from Australia (after southern summer cruise season) back to North America (for northern summer cruise season), so that 3-week cruise is Australia, New Caledonia, Fiji, Samoa, Tahiti, Hawaii, Vancouver - not the other way.  (If they'd done the tour in the fall, he totally could've gone by cruise ship.)

2013-02-18 01:54:17 AM
Couldn't they just tattoo and pierce a flaming koala. Nevermind, koalas cannot keep time and their arms are much too short to reach both the high-hat and the bass pedal.

The Wikipedia entry for that guy is downright depressing. He hasn't been seen or heard from in about 10 years, although I get the impression that nobody is really looking for him.

...So he's probably available!

Commercial crashes?  There have been more than a few.

If you mean any type of airplane, then Howard Hughes takes the cake.

Huh, its 2013 and someone actually reported something about Blink-182 as if it was relevant to anyone.  Weird.

I saw Blink 182 in 2011 because I was chaperoning a pack of teenagers. I was blown away, particularly by Barker. Also Matt and Kim who opened were pretty cool.

/Speaking of flammable drummers. I met Artimus Pyle when he played the bar I worked at.

It's amazing he survived the crash to begin with...and to have the burns he did, the rehab, etc......I can't blame him for not wanting to fly.

G.G. Allin would have flown. This guy is no punk.

The Blink tour ends 4 before Bad Religion heads out. I'm thinking about going to see them in Philly.

And honestly I think they're one of the best pop-punk bands out there.  I'm glad they're back together, their last two albums are pretty amazing examples of the genre.  Far as that realm goes, only Alkaline Trio gets more play time for me than they do.

Some comedian did a bit where he claimed he could make sure no one sat next to him on a plane: he'd buy a chocolate ice cream cone before he boarded, and would smear it all over his face once he got seated.  When his seatmate showed up, he'd look at them, smile and tell them he'd be happy to share.

Have you checked out their new EP?  Pretty good stuff and an excellent indication of what the next record may sound like.
