If it's true, I hope he loses his seat. As far as prosecution, that's a gray area because prostitution is legal in the DR. As far as I've seen, there's no proof that he utilized the services of prostitutes, let alone underage ones. It certainly seems the other charges he's being investigated for sound more legitimate but of course the media and the right wing just go for the unsubstantiated rumors that are more sensational

That's the funny thing: FTA:

A team of FBI agents has been conducting interviews in recent weeks in the Dominican Republic and the United States, looking into allegations that Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) patronized prostitutes in the Caribbean nation, but has found no evidence to support the claim, according to two people familiar with the investigation.

This sounds akin to the allegations that we head over the years of Clinton rejecting capturing Bin Laden, because of the accusation of a cat who repeatedly tried to drum up a deal for cash, who had no ties to anyone, but kept insisting that he could just deliver if he had cash in hand...

The raid came days after the tipster's e-mail exchange with the FBI was posted anonymously on a Web site.

So this "Pete Williams" guy who nobody has ever met or talked with on the phone has been making allegation about Sen Menendez and one of his donors since last spring? The Daily Caller then picked it up and ran with it without the slightest shred of proof which is how most folks found out? And now the donor' involvement with a port security deal in the DR is under close scrutiny but no proof of any underage hooker parties involving the Senator's trips have surfaced and now the tipster's credibility or lack of same is coming into question?

Well, glad we got that straightened around.

Thought at first that this might have been a real whistleblower kind of deal but it looks more and more like a political hatchet job.

Sure, if he, er, "trafficked" with underage girls, f*ck him - prosecute him for broken laws local and domestic...if he had sex with legal, consensual adults (prostitutes), then let the voters decide whether to keep him or oust him over this.  Same with his wife, and whoever else deals with the guy.

So far, this seems like example # 4875734986573 of "throw something against the wall and see if it sticks, 'cuz if it does, OBAMA GOING DOWN!!" or something.

FTFA: Separately, Melgen is under criminal investigation over allegations of Medicare fraud. Three people with knowledge of the probe disclosed this week that it focuses on whether Melgen defrauded the government by overcharging Medicare for millions of dollars in eye injections and billing the government for treatments that were unnecessary.

Call me old-fashioned, but this seems to be the FAR MORE IMPORTANT issue here. The port contract advocacy is kinda meh, and so far the leakers are saying no evidence on the hooker charge. And there is nothing mentioned about any Executive Branch sources. Of course your McCarthyist misuse of the word "Democrat" sorta gave that away, Submiturd.

So Republicans took an issue deserving of attention and piled a bunch of made up shiat on top of it just to make Barackolypto HUSSEIN Oblivion look worse, effectively killing any interest in the actual problems when all the made up shiat gets disproven?

In the very first paragraph the article states that the FBI has found nothing to substantiate the charges against Menendez, then goes on for the next ten paragraphs outlining what those unsubstantiated charges are. If the guy's done something wrong, sure, throw the book at him, but this all seems extremely vague and suspicious to me. I mean, if we were going to start an unnecessary war with Iraq over importing yellowcake uranium, sure this is all the evidence we'd need, but in terms of driving someone out of office over trumped-up charges, I'd like to see a little more evidence, please.

Medicare fraud is south Florida's biggest industry. It would be more surprising if an elected official doing business there -didn't- have contacts with a thief or three. The governor would know this.

Menendez is one of the politicians I subscribe to via email. From what I'm fed in their little newsletters telling of what he & his Zoo Crew are up to, I like the cut of his jib. There has been news articles of his visiting where prostitution is legal for some months now. Legal being a key word. First time I've seen accusations of underage.

pffft. I like sweet young things too but those days disappeared a long time ago. i'd rather have a politician banging a willing & paid 16-17 yr old sex worker than a priest molesting little boys.

It's tough to turn up the outrage meters to 11 when you're talking about some sort of obscure violation of billing rules. People don't quite understand what is going on, they see some numbers, their eyes glaze over, and everyone forgets it. Maybe somebody who watches PBS or reads the Washing Post gets it, but 95% of Americans just don't.

Underage hookers, on the other hand, is easy to turn up to 11.   Because hookers.
