No, you just switched which marketing firm you write the check to. It's the same providers, the same contracted installers, the same repairmen, the same grid, the same power plants.

Another deregulation failure.

Gangland 1930's Chicago is the best part of Illinois.

That means you need a time machine to enjoy the state properly. That or an obsessive love of cows and cornfields.

This. I laugh at Illinois people who openly wonder why I live across the border. I can be in Grant Park just as fast as driving from O'Hare and pay 25% less for pretty much everything. And thats before property taxes (which is closer to 75% less). Suckers.

so you like to use a public facility, but dont like to pay for the public facility.
let me guess, you vote for the GOP?

I have no children, but I pay property taxes so poor people can get the best possible education for their children.
I have never complained about paying this tax. Ever.

I live downtown and use public facilities constantly. From Police and Fire, to roads and civic buildings/areas.
I pay taxes for these, so that I can use them, and for poor people living in the city to have access to these things that they would never have otherwise. I never complain about sharing what I have, so that those with nothing can have something.

But go ahead and use our wonderful tax supported civic facilities.
Those taxes are the dues that I pay to live in a civil society.
Even if others are just cross-border takers.

I don't use them, actually. And last time I checked, I pay the same to use things like the El as everyone else so I'm not sure whatpublic facilities I'm using . Just used Grant Park as a generic reference point for downtown.

In fact, when I do use them(the ones that charge), I add revenue not earned in the state by paying taxes, buying food, etc... If you want, I'll drop $7 on a train ticket and not $20 to park, buy fewer $5 beers and wait till I get home to spend half as much. I can easily spend less for the same experience.

I assume this is to allow the electric company to competitively price their electricity but to give them some security if oil/coal prices jump during a contract year.

Which also means that if oil/coal prices drop they would send out rebate checks, right?

Not to mention the guy is blindly ignoring the fact that the elected officials are using his money for their personal gain that far outweighs the value they provide.

Chicago is having a hissy fit about law-abiding citizens exercising their 2nd Amendment rights.

Since Chicago controls the state, I think Illinois is going to take it to the Supreme Court, where they will be biatchslapped.

SUCKS that you are against this, but ...
And Chicago has had a ban on hand guns and concealed handguns going back to the 70s.
It dig ZERO to reduce gun crime deaths and ZERO to reduce home gun deaths.

All the laws did was allow them DA to pile on additional charges.

Chicago's handgun ban was struck down by the SCOTUS in 2010 with McDonald v Chicago. They ruled that the 14th Amendment means the 2nd Amendment also applies to the states, thus a ban on handgun registration (which was a defacto ban on handguns, as all guns in the City of Chicago had to be registered) was unconstitutional as it was infringing on the right to keep and bear arms.

If you're at a gun range for shooting events (I shoot in high power matches) you can load it up to capacity, but otherwise 7 is the max you can load even though the clip holds 8. They also make 1, 2, and 5 round clips for Garands. I plan on picking up a few.

Not having a conceal/carry permit is a huge disadvantage up there especially near Chicago where guns are plentiful as long as you get them illegally.

And I have been to Illinois, I would rather be in Florida, I can only assume not a slave state is slang for being pro union since slavery hasn't existed for over a century. Being a right to work state is actually a plus for most people but only those that push to get ahead and don't just rely on those ahead of them to die to get a promotion.

I think what he was trying to say is that everybody is still putting the same amount of electricity in the grid as before but you've only switched which power generation company is getting your money. We have basically the same thing in Texas: each region has a single company that manages distribution and multiple companies providing the electrons. I worked for an Eco-friendly company for a while and the idea was that we could influence the other companies by showing them that people wanted cleaner electricity generation. Distribution was a natural monopoly but people were still free to reward the companies providing cleaner electricity.

LOL, that's what you meant? In Atlanta we had black professors publicly complaining that they couldn't lose Atlanta back to white people yet there was very little outrage from anyone. If a white professor had said that in any other city they would have been demands for him to be fired and jailed for hate speech.

namatad: but have you talked to minorities living in the red states?

Yeah, I live in one.  Minorities are more frequently isolated in northern states.  The whole term "sundown town" is a Northern construct.

Don't get too high on your horse, of the 10 most segregated cities in the US, only one is in the South (and that's in Florida), and 9 out of 10 of them are heavily Democratic.  While the South had to integrate (eventually) during Reconstruction and afterwards up through the 1960s, the same federal review didn't apply to Northern states, so they self-segregated.

I have to use the term "neighbor" loosely, because I live on a 10 mile road with only four houses, but one of my neighbors are an old white couple, racist as hell, who are related to the family that hid John Wilkes Booth after he shot Lincoln.  Another family runs an extremely large farm, and they might be racist, but damned if I know about it because most of their farm hands are the children of the other neighbors, who are a black family who bought themselves out of slavery sometime in the mid 1800's and have been living on the same property ever since.

I won't argue there's not a shiatton of racism in the South (there is) but there is dedicated, debilitating, institutional racism in the North that isn't ever addressed because people like you seem to think you're above it.  You aren't.  While you might feel better being able to point at other people you don't understand by virtue of your place of birth, it doesn't make you any less complicit in the abuse minorities face on your doorstep every day.  It just makes you ignorant of what they have to go through.

/born and raised in the North
//no better than the South, as I've found.
