FunkOut: PluckYew: serial_crusher: Mugato: FunkOut: Although with the emotion chip in the movies, I suppose someone had to run up and respackle after he made one of those disturbing rounds of android laughter.

They only used the emotion chip in the first movie and the beginning of the second then he shut it off. They ignored it in the other movies.

What other movies? Generations and First Contact were the only TNG movies...

Is this like there were no Highlander sequels?

There were also no Matrix sequels or third Godfather movie.

Also, there was no 3rd Mad Max movie, and no 4th season of Airwolf.

In Troi's defense... The damned ship was already in the middle of a nosedive and a warp core breach when she grabbed the stick, and she kept the nose up and prevented it from hitting hard enough to kill everyone.

Granted, the shockwave from the sun exploding killed everyone a few seconds later, but hey, in the very next timeline she was more of a hero than she gets credit for.

Blame the ensign who was there before her, who didn't manage to dodge the shots by the Klingon ship. Stupid ensign.

I don't see how Insurrection and Nemesis were worse than Generations. They sucked but so did Generations.

Marina Sirtis failed her driving test because she was too busy learning how to fire rocket-propelled grenades!

Blame Riker, who fired only one shot before running away.

NeoCortex42: Pentaxian: GAT_00: The man's 64. And it's probably a bit more shocking because they had to make him up more and more every year to keep him from aging.

BTW does Patrick Stewart age at all? There is very little difference between when he played Gurney Hallack:

and nearly 30 years later:

Look how much more hair he had 30 years ago!

He's been bald since 19 due to alopecia, so he's not exactly the best example of showing the effects of aging.

And even as bad as they were, they didn't crap all over the existing mythos like Highlander II did.

Meh, I followed him on twitter for a while. He's kind of a dick in his tweets, so I would expect the same or worse in real life.

Smelly McUgly: NeoCortex42: Smelly McUgly: I was trying to get into Star Trek because I really love sci-fi as a genre, and I found that, while I'm not a fan in general, I think TNG is much, much, MUCH better than the original series. Mostly because Patrick Stewart and Levar Burton.

End threadjack.

The Original Series is good campy fun, but nowhere near the quality of the later series in writing, acting, or production design.  I think TNG is a great show overall (although it had a rough first couple of seasons), but DS9 holds up much better.

I also must note that I watched the pilot and then three of the episodes that people love the most. Stuff like City on the Edge of Forever might have been overhyped because I didn't think it was anything more than a good concept with some decent comedy bits in the middle of the story (Spock vulcan nerve-pinching the cop was the best thing in the whole episode).

Did Harlan Ellison write that episode, by the way, or am I thinking of another episode? Love Harlan Ellison, but I guess this was an example of him being a better short-story writer than TV episode writer if true. I know he wrote for Twilight Zone, too, but I can't remember if any of his episodes of TZ were top-tier.

City on the Edge of Forever is usually considered one of the better episodes, mostly because it actually attempted to tell a more dramatic story.  The bulk of episodes were mostly excuses for Kirk to fight/bang random aliens.  One real standout episode for suspense is Balance of Terror, which attempts to have a submarine battle in space.

I think Star Trek: Dallas is even better.

FunkOut: GAT_00: violentsalvation: Good lord he's aged enough to play Noonien Soong without the prosthetics and makeup.

The man's 64.  And it's probably a bit more shocking because they had to make him up more and more every year to keep him from aging.

Cake on enough silvery white make up and you can fill up the facial lines. Just don't make too many facial expressions. Although with the emotion chip in the movies, I suppose someone had to run up and respackle after he made one of those disturbing rounds of android laughter.

If they wanted to work him into a future Trek movie all they need to do is use the same process they used for CLU in Tron Legacy. Since he's an android, the uncanny valley would actually work in the film's favor.

Here she is in Death Wish 3. This is my wife, Maria.

Makeup, hair products, and low cut lavender lycra work much better for her.
