Tough luck for other Keselowski.

Well, he got a time in... a time that basically assures him starting dead last in his Duel anyhow.

A girl is going to get the pole at Daytona, and it's not even Spring Break???

We still have Josh Wise, Evil Opie, and El Jet Dryer to go to qualify, but yeah.

ClavellBCMI And there are two Keselowski's trying to qualify today, Brad in the Blue Deuce, and Brian in the 52 car (Brad is 31st in order, and Brian is 38th).

Cousin Carl bypassed a tv interview to help Keselowski's little brother's car going?  Next thing they'll tell me the Pope resigned...

I like Danica and hope she gets a win or two this season. That said, the hype over the next week if she gets the pole is going to be unbearable.

OK now, whoever ends up alongside of or behind He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named in the Duels, you know what must be done.

She has it in the bag. All this week it will be the Danica show.

Well, hype away, because we just have the first women's pole in cup history. Not just Daytona history. CUP history.

ClavellBCMI: Lt. Cheese Weasel: Chevrolets are kicking ass.  America! fark YEAH!

And the Danica haters gonna be frothing at the mouth if her P1 holds up.

It's Daytona qualifying, where the driver is nothing more than a passenger. I'm not a hater, but having to listen to this story for the next week is going to be annoying as hell as people try to make it into some kind of actual driving accomplishment or assign it some meaning that's more than it deserves.

2013-02-17 03:28:17 PM
Damn impressive for Danica. The fact that she ran early and nobody could beat her time really shows what a strong driver she is. If she can avoid getting caught up in other people's wrecks every damn week, She could potentially make the chase.

Also, the chicken who crossed the road would like to thank the "Danica/Pole" quips for making him the SECOND-oldest joke in the book.

Hey, y'all :)  Just finished reading last night's race thread and watching the qualifying.

I'm soooo happy that race season is back!

Was hoping for a Danica/Stewart front row. Attractive woman and awkward, chubby dude. Like her Super Bowl GoDaddy commercial.

Unspoken context: some of them were godawful, and one immediately comes to mind.

I still say James Hinchcliffe needs to recreate her GoDaddy commercials, shot for shot. And from what I've seen of his personality, I think he would love to do that.

It does make some sense, especially if you are in the middle of a typical plate-race Big One and your car has become a 3400lb pinball. If it's a 1- or 2-car loss-of-control incident, when someone takes the air away and sends you spinning, you'd probably be better off holding on and trying to get the car reasonably straight again, all while praying that the traffic behind you gets out of your way.

I remember all the derp surrounding that. I know almost nothing about racing and it was obvious to me why she did what she did.

Yeah, that was a "no duh" for anyone who has been taught what to do in a multiple-car violent accident.

No we weren't. People who actually know about car racing were explaining that it's really common in open wheel racing to do that. About a week or two later young Kasey did it too, with a full shoulder belt grab

It's not misogynist if they are right. She's done nothing of worth in racing (other than winning a rained out race) to justify the constant headlines.

in last year's Indy 500, i remember the announcers/analysts praising some driver (not danica) during a slow mo replay for having the presence of mind to take his hands off the wheel in a crash.  i'm thinking will power or perhaps andretti...soemone that got KTFOd and DNFd.

I seem to remember Danica doing that in either a Nationwide or Sprint race and people were slamming her because she took her hands off the wheel.  There was alot of derp about her taking her hands off and covering her eyes.  Even after it was explained that was what you were supposed to do when you race Indy cars, there were still people who thought she covered her eyes and screamed like a girl.

the biggest redneck here: It's Daytona qualifying, where the driver is nothing more than a passenger.

This is true to an extent. The team setup and motor build is a more important contribution and Danica will be the first to say so. But if you watched the ghost shots (which were cool, BTW) of her against Gordon and Stewart, she braved that yellow line better than they did. Winds could have been a factor, but that's for everyone. Like Stewart said afterward, yes, she has a great setup, but she had to do her part too.

Mr. Horsepower: Of all the ways i expected to see her on a pole, this was pretty far down the list.

Surprising, considering how she was riding high by sitting on a pole this time last year, even if it didn't have the stature of this one.

Nascar is struggling and this was fixed, big time. Daytona is a wide open, mat the throttle track and she has less experience than just about everyone out there. Her "pole" is nothing more than Napcar's diversity program in high gear.

2013-02-17 06:50:03 PM
Ok ok, so she won the pole. Talk to Loy Allen Jr. about how important winning the pole at Daytona is.

Not saying she will, but let's say she wins or hell just Top 5s.. think the comments like some of the ones above begin to slow?
