TFA doesn't specify, but that HAS to be a parent.  His little snowflake didn't get favored treatment (or the other team had the unmitigated gall to try to win), so of course he beats up the referee.

He was right! The Ref does need new glasses now!

Could be that because of the ref he didn't cover the spread. He was (admittedly very low ranking) mob enforcer dealing out retribution for not fixing the game. Grade school basketball gambling is a terrible thing.

The ref has my sympathies for being attacked, but he's still a bit of a dumbass for wearing $300 glasses while standing in the middle of a bunch of kids throwing a ball around. One errant pass and those glasses are just as broken.

When I was in middle school, my dad coached my rec league basketball team.  One ref got pissed at my dad for yelling at him all game, and challenged him to a fight afterwards.  My dad just kinda looked at him strangely.

Pretty much only parents, family members and pedophiles attend 7th grade basketball games.

animesucks: oh my gosh, it's my 3rd grade basketball coach all over again

We must of had the same coach.  He had passed away a many years back, and I am sure it was his heart.  Good man, but very intense with child athletics... even football.

Yeah, but did the ref suck?

Now is not the time to start talking about parent control.

As someone who has officiated little league baseball and basketball over the years I completely agree, parents are the worst.

$300 isn't actually expensive for glasses.

Not everyone buys glasses online. Also some eye insurance plans don't cover discount places like America's Best so you're stuck going to the more expensive places if you don't want to go through the hassle of getting refunded by insurance.

Is this the thread where we discuss how great a coach Calipari is with non-lottery pick talent?

Bwwwwwwwaaaaaaa

theurge14: Yeah, but did the ref suck?

FTA: He said the Bellevue man approached him as he was walking off the gym floor and greeted him with two words: "You suck."

Sounds like it.

That seems to be the going price for any simple pair of glasses.  If you want to go bifocal. . .THAT'S expensive.

True story, when I was in high school one of our rival schools banned parents from attending games for every sport because of crap like this.  Funny part is it was the students who petitioned the school to institute it.

The behaviour of some parents at their kids' games is really and truly asinine.

CSB: When I was about 8 our school district decided to have a big soccer tournament with one team from each school. Being the smallest school, no-one really took us seriously and we lucked into the final. About half-way through the match we hear booing. I turn to the classmate near me and say "Oh great, their parents are booing us." The opposing player near us hung her head and said in a sad voice "No... they're booing us". And she was right. The parents were booing their own kids. (We found out later that some of the parents had snuck booze in their trunks and had gotten good and tight between the semi-final and the final). We ended up winning and after all the problems the school division decided that would be the first and last soccer tournament they had.

Subby neglected to mention that the game was played between Catholic schools. That would have generated 10 times as many comments, don'cha know.
