I'd take it over a (modern) Camaro. I guess that means I'm a grown up finally.

Saw more pictures on another site, it looks way too much like my 13 Malibu on the inside.

Meh, it's still a chevy

I guess it's true what they say - work makes you free of bankruptcy. But is this the final solution that completes GM's comeback? Just a few years ago, lots of folks were arguing about whether to pull the company out of the oven.

I think it would look good next to my 2013 ZL1

Meh, don't care for sedans, but glad they're making it in an effort to finally appease the Holden enthusiasts who've been begging for something like it for years.

I wish Sergio Marchionne would take note of it, since Jeep fans have been begging for the European diesel version for years.  (I know the Grand Cherokee gets one this year, but I'm not dropping $45k on a less-douchetastic, albeit more reliable, Land Rover knockoff.)

2013-02-16 09:23:57 AM
Only if you like clunky underperforming sedans.  If that is the best they can do with 50 billion of taxpayer money, they should just quit.

The General's lastest LS series V8s have been outstanding. If I had a lot more money than I actually have I'd get a crate motor and some classic and build some kind of restomod....

Seems like your typical late model 4 door sedan, is SS it's only name? Not  Impala SS or Chevelle SS?
Oh, I know, it's the new Lumina SS! I wonder how many badges GM will put on this one.

No, it just means you have taste. The new Camaros are hideous.

As for this thing, it's not a bad looking car. Between this and the 300/Charger, it makes me want to see another 4-door sedan with RWD and a V8.

IM STARING AND YELLING AT YOU FORD!

Yeah we are practically swimming in sedans with over 400 HP and Torque aren't we.

I don't want one but lets not pretend it's the same as your seabring either.

Well, I hate to break this to you, but the high performance part doesn't really matter. No one's taking one of these to the track. They're just going to drive around town at approximately the same speeds as everyone else in a car that looks just like every other mid-range sedan on the road. If people want to pay more to do that, more power to them. Just don't expect me to oooh and aaaah over a car that looks like a Hyundai.

I'll never really understand American car companies. This looks pretty boring, as if you just dropped a big engine in a Grand Am or something. What's the draw of having a dull looking sedan with a lot of HP?

They were doing some nice stuff with the retro muscle cars, the new Camaro, the new Challenger, the new Charger, etc., but this doesn't seem interesting at all.

2013-02-16 09:56:19 AM
So they're rereleasing the Pontiac G8? Was that a good car? All I remember is that it had the 6.0 liter and was apparently very similar/the same as a Holden.

Phaeon: So they're rereleasing the Pontiac G8? Was that a good car? All I remember is that it had the 6.0 liter and was apparently very similar/the same as a Holden.

I was actually considering a G8, it was a great looking and performing car, then the economy and GM shiat the bed and I lost my job so no G8 for me.

2013-02-16 09:58:53 AM
Well... if someone handed me the keys and said "Here, it's yours", I'd take it. Otherwise... Not entirely impressed. Nice stats, to be sure, but for that same money you could get something that doesn't look like (as noted) a Malibu or any number of other cars from American auto makers.

Taking mediocrity to a whole new level of "meh".

I never told you to 'ohh and ahh' only that the car is not 'the same' as a lot of other sedans and that your criticism was off the mark. Don't count out horsepower. I only drive my car at normal speeds but it's nice to have some in reserve to get out of dangerous situations. while 415:415 is overkill I can't tell you how many times I've been happy to have the option of putting my foot down when cruising on the highway and some jackass decides to merge without shoulder checking and I have no lane to bail out to or any number of other situations.

It's more like a re-dressed and re-branded version of the defunkt Pontiac G8 GXP. I am pretty sure it's the same engine and transmission.

Ok, I should have clarified, when talking about "same-y", I was referring to looks. It LOOKS same-y. Is that better, Professor Lecturemuch?

I like that they didn't go all gaudy with the styling.  It's a little more aggressive in styling, but just a little.  Sort of how BMW does it with their M class cars.  They look pretty much the same as the rest, but are more capable and a little more interesting both in the cockpit, and in styling.

Taurus SHO can get there easily by dialing up the boost a fraction, but I think they don't want to step on Mustang GT and Shelby toes.

I betcha the interior looks like it came out of a 1989 chevy celebrity. No matter how much power GM puts into these cars, they are always made as cheap as possible and it always shows.

You mean, meet the re-badged Holden Commodore Re-badged Pontiac G8 Re-Badged SS Subs.. This is still GM after all.
Not that I'm complaining necessarily... this is one of the better things they've decided not to mothball. Also typically GM, "Lets
toss an SS badge on it" (I'm convinced they still have BINS full from the 80's they need to use up).
