(NBC Chicago)   If you live near Chicago, there's a good chance the cop pulling you over has a higher BAC than you do. But that's OK. It's in their contract   (nbcchicago.com ) divider line

At least the LAPD are apparently so drunk they can't shoot their targets.

At least the LAPD are apparently so colorblind they think Asian women and Christopher Dorner look the same.

At least the LAPD are apparently so unprepared that Die Hard was on the right path when Carl Winslow was the competent cop.

At least the LAPD are apparently familiar with Persian Rugs that they could properly demonstrate how to clean one, but then Rodney King got in the way.

At least the LAPD only shoot at you.

At least almost every police department in America, LAPD included, can throw your ass in jail for blowing a .01 if they think you're impaired, but their union contract says they're above the law.

/shiat, I probably shouldn't go to LA for a while.

ThatGuyFromTheInternet: Pelvic Splanchnic Ganglion: badhatharry: .05 is not drunk.

.05 isn't even slightly drunk, regardless of what the MADD nannies would like you to believe.

If my employer can decide I'm not allowed to get stoned on the weekends, I don't think it's asking too much to expect guys who drive and carry guns to not drink before work.

Pretty much this.  The standard for most professions that have an BAC standard is 0.04 (truck drivers, licensed mariners, etc).  You'd hope the people who may have to make split-second decisions that could affect life and limb to be of clear mind when doing so.  You'd hope.  Plus, it's really not too much to ask.  If you can't get through your day without drinking, perhaps you should seek a more appropriate line of work instead of whining like a biatch about it.

Devolving_Spud: I was sitting with a friend in his car, waiting for a department store to open one morning.   We thought they opened at 7:00, but they opened at 8:00, so we decided to sit and wait.    We were just over the Georgia state line (from Florida).   A cop cruiser does a slow circle around us and pulls up alongside us, driver-to-driver.   The cop asks us where we're from and what we're doing.   He asks us if we like guns.   Not if we have guns...just if we like guns.  He asks if we want to see his gun.   Then pulls another gun out of a shoebox on the front seat.   Then hands the gun to my friend.   By then, we realized he was 3 sheets to the wind, drunk off his ass.   And friendly as hell.   After about 10 minutes of gun talk, we handed his guns back and he went on his happy way.

Better make sure you never get fingerprinted, cause there is an unsolved murder with your prints on the weapon.

I really don't like cops, and I don't trust them as far as I can throw them. Even I can't find a problem with this. .05 is not drunk. Hell, .01 isn't drunk.

I wont argue that it isn't "drunk", but you are mincing words to prove a point. It is impaired, even if ever so slightly.

Why would you want your cops judgement more impaired than normal?

Imagine this scenario:

You're the town attorney. One of the officers on the police force has shot someone and the investigation has led to some serious questions on whether or not he should have. If the blood and/or Breathalyzer test shows .04 BAC, are you gonna trust that officer's judgement, sensory perception, and physical coordination at the time of the shooting? You think that the lawyer(s) suing the town don't smell blood in the water? That officer's decision to drink before work could cost your town millions, and leave people dead and injured. Even if he's okay to drive.

flucto: When rational people biatch about Unions, it's this kind of crap that is behind the complaint. Sure, band together, get fair pay and benefits. But this farking shiat? Screw this union for ever even asking for it.

Ever notice how when The Right goes after unions they always exempt Police and Fire.

I wonder why ...

Your statement is as false as theirs. Alcohol impairment based on consumption is highly subjective and based on a huge variety of factors from weight to genetics.

For these reason it should have never been used as a measure of actual impairment. But, using the same type of unfounded hyperbole as MADD does no one any good.

There are two America's. The wealthy and the ruling class are one of them. Most of us are the other. The belief, that with our demographics,  we should just give them all the effective guns and they will look out for our interests, is mind-numbingly stupid.

"If those test results come in in anything greater than zero, we are not going to put that officer on the street," said Paul Volpe, the Elmwood Park Village Manager. "We have a zero tolerance policy."

You know...except for the contract that explicitly states otherwise.

"People who are more used to drinking will have less impairment," said Dr. David Zich of Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

He better be careful. MADD will rape him to death if he keeps substituting reality for the propaganda they've introduced countrywide.
