My mom bought those little coins that went into Lego treasure chests and hid them in me and my sister's brussell sprouts. As avid Lego fans, we devoured them sprouts looking for Lego related treasure.

Seriously parents, if you want your kids to eat vegetables cook them well. It wasn't until college did I eat most vegetables because I childhood experience with broccoli and such was being forced to eat them from frozen packages that were nuked into bitter, rubbery husks. Mixing them with other ingredients is a good idea too.

Well, you could try the 'ol landing the airplane deal with the little ones. For us, it wasn't so effective. But for some reason when we "named" the broccoli after their cousins (who they rarely see), they really took to it! Also,

I bit the bullet and tried some Brussels sprouts this week for the first time since I was a boy. My mother came from the "boil them to a gloopy mess" school of vegetable cuisine and they would taste bitter and smell awful.

I lightly brushed them with olive oil and crushed garlic and roasted them. They were fantastic. I can't believe what I've been missing out on for all these years.

Try sugar on buttered egg noodles. Simple sugar on concentrated complex sugar (starch). A glycemic thermo-nuke that equals a pint of agave nectar in one slug.

I don't get the whole "kids won't eat veggies" thing. If you get them eating veggies from the day they're on solids you won't have problems. The only parents I know who have problems are lazy as fark and too busy to actually make an effort feeding their kids decent food. I know one family, their kid will ONLY eat raw pasta with tomato sauce - and they ALLOW it.. "Oh, no matter what we do he won't anything else..". WTF.

Here's an idea, send him to bed without dinner once or twice, i bet his attitude changes..

With me it was always salt. Not much, just a pinch. Now that I'm older and my tastes have mature, I like doing what brings out the natural flavor of whatever I'm cooking. Unfortunately, most of the stuff served up in grocery stores has been modified to be bigger but lose all the flavor.

texture is important as well...I can't swallow a brussel sprout without choking it up in green frothy vomit...it's just so mushy and gross....

I was raised in the 60's, in the South by a large and wonderful black lady named Australia. I never ate a vegetable that wasn't cooked with a scoop of sugar and a couple of table spoons of bacon fat. (mmmm green beans with a whole ham hock)

I still fry my cabbage with some bacon grease.

This would make sense for my wife. She prefers sweet foods, hates bitter things, and is hypersensitive when I cook with wine or booze... I've always thought her sense of taste was just messed up since the day she told me dark chocolate tasted too "sweet" and milk chocolate had a more bitter taste which is why she liked milk chocolate better.

Brussels sprouts are great, they're natures perfect little butter delivery devices. Slice them in half, coat with oil and bake for about 30 minutes at 350F. After that through them in a pan with butter and a little garlic. Cook over med-low heat for 5-10 minutes. They should be soft, but not mushy and should absorb most of the butter. It's also delicious with olive oil instead of butter if you want to mix it up.

Huh... yeah, I remember being a kid - snorting pixie dust. Eating a pound of chocolate in one go if my parents weren't looking. A farking sugar cube was delicious.

Now I can't eat a donut without getting heartburn. Vegetables are my friends and carrots - CARROTS - are one of the sweeter things I eat. A spoonful of sugar would taste more like burning.

I make up for it with hot sauce, rare meat, and things like mushrooms and eggplant, that I NEVER would eat as a kid.

Tastes change.
