Well, subby, the truth is that sometimes, if someone's about to do something bad to you, it's actually better to just lie back and let it happen. See, let's say your're being attacked by, I don't know, a rapist. And that rapist wants to rape you. I mean, he wants to  rapeyou. So what's going to stop him? What's going to get between you and him? Nothing, that's what. And if you try to stop him yourself, what's going to happen is that you're still probably going to get raped, but you also might get beaten or murdered or worse in the process. Whereas, if you just lay back, let him get on his rape face and do his thing, it'll be over before you know it and you might even enjoy yourself a little bit. Plus, your body's natural defenses will kick into gear and shut down any negative consequences like pregnancy or STDs.

I know what you're worried about, of course. You're worried that your lying there and taking it mean that your rape was somehow less legitimate than it would have been if you'd fought back.

Well, let's be honest. It might be. I mean, it's possible that you enjoyed yourself a bit  toomuch, if you get my drift. You get one, maybe two moans, that's about it. And you've got to protest a little bit, maybe hit your fists against his shoulders a couple of times (but not in a way that urges him on, of course, because that would be sending a mixed signal which you don't want to do). The bottom line is that you want to fight back but not  fightback. You need to make it clear that this whole thing is against your will, but not make him mad enough to hurt you. If you stray too far from that line in one direction, you've fallen off the cliff into consent and might as well just marry the guy. If you stray too far in the other direction, he's going to kill you. I won't lie, it's a pretty tough place to be. But here's the thing...if you thread that needle  just right, if you walk the line  exactly along the right path, not only will you be alive when it's over, but you'll be the one in the right! Well, unless he comes back for seconds, then you've got to walk that whole line all over again, but you get my point. And hey, if you did it once, you can do it again.

Anyway, this is the conundrum Republicans find themselves in. They're having to negotiate that very careful line, thread that tiny, tiny needle, to make sure that, when Obama's finally slaked his thirst, pushed himself up from their heaving (well, not too heaving) bosom, and zipped up his pants, they're able to wait for him to leave and then pull closed their tattered shirts and say, "We survived!" And, more importantly, "We never truly wanted this!" They'll be able to know, know without a doubt, that while Obama may have taken their bodies, he never took their  minds.

2013-02-15 05:31:20 PM
Its about immigration reform.

As stupid as they are, the Republicans can at least understand that if they keep alienating Latinos, they'll never win another Presidential election.

The republican party has been doing an excellent job of building the wall in the empty spaces between themselves and large segments of voters.

With women-  Just because a woman is not ready to be a mother and succumbs to a moment of young lust does not mean the smart thing todo is vilify her. The trial they attempt to put these women on over moral differences has got to stop.  Any time the issue of forced fetal scans comes up, women run like hell to the voting booths to pull the lever for anyone else.  issues of a woman's personal choice - there is another brick in the wall between them and independent voters.

With the poor- Every cut they want to make to government services always hits those on the thin ice between poverty and homelessness the hardest. I wish they could be there in the flesh, when a mother has to tell her children there is nothing for supper.  You think foreclosures are bad now, wait till some of these safety nets are cut, we will have whole streets with nobody home.  the insensitivity to the poor, yet another brick in the wall between them and independent voters.

With the gay community- Do you really think voters are staying up at night afraid that instead of Fred and Vera they will live next to Fred and Steve.  What is supposed to be the happiest days of our lives, for some couples, ends up being the hardest, as they wonder if their marriage will be honored.  How are you going to make sure americans have the 'right' type of sex, stand at the end of their beds, in the flesh?  I wish most leadership republicans would admit they have no interest in legislation against this, but the show must go on, I guess. -issues of sexual preference another brick in wall between them and independent voters.

With Defense- i really shouldn't even mention how pointless wars have hurt their strong defense credentials, and left the door open for the Dems to bring the boys back home.  It is never easy to get past the costs of unpopular wars. Young soldiers say goodbye blue sky of Kansas, hello smoke filled sky of iraq, or even worse, goodbye-cruel world.  These are real people, it isn't a game of risk where you can say "I'll just use one of my turns to add more troops".

Hey you! Yeah you, comfortably numb, middle class, moderate, republicans! Is there anybody out there? It's us, independent voters, standing outside the wall you have built! I'm still here, don't leave me now!

.. also waiting for the worms

A story on Fox about cooperation with the big O?

images.wikia.com

Seriously, Fox makes a very small attempt to present other viewpoints, and they are usually browbeaten and drowned out by conservative hosts who are stacked in numbers against any liberal guests. Which, you know, is fine if that is what they say they are doing, but this pretending to be fair and balanced is BS. The problem is that they devote the 99% of their air time and web space to not just conservative viewpoints, but often report stories with glaring inaccuracies and omissions which again, is their prerogative. But enough with the talking out of both sides of the mouth.

There is no shortage of material to pull from to demonstrate this, so here is one recent Daily Show segment from last fall that pretty well sums up Fox's inaccuracies with regards to that rich white dude with all the houses, cars, boats and curiously missing tax.records.
