Well, if you're going to hit a child, you might as well pull out the racial slurs. I mean using racial slurs is a line you don't cross, but as you pointed out laying a hand on another person's child is a line you really don't cross.

Being a racist isn't a crime although it may get you a well-deserved punch in the face. Assaulting a child in front of their parent is most definitely a crime.

I used to go to a particular bar/brewery/restaurant quite often. They brewed their own beer, but they were also a "family restaurant". We'd sit in the bar area but quite often there would be little kids running around. I don't know WTF their parents were thinking but after a few beers I may be navigating to or from he rest room and there's some kid running around. I was annoyed, but I would just freeze because if I kept walking there was a good chance that my knee would end up in their kids face - not on purpose, mind you but just because the kid is running around with their face at knee-height and I had been drinking.

The kids didn't deserve a knee in their face, but their parents probably did. I somewhat regret never confronting the parents, but OTOH it's probably best that I just avoided them. If I hadn't then maybe I too could have become a Fark headline.

I haven't been there in a while though. Note to bars: If you're going to be a "family restaurant" as well as a bar, keep the farking kids out of the bar.

I think it's the fact that northern Idaho is so sparsely populated, and there never was much of a reason for non-whites to move there; it's all descendents of the original settlers (somewhat like Appalachia). There you go. I've been annoyed by far more adults on plans than children and usually for much longer. Hell, I had a guy next to me start on a rant about babies on planes after a baby started fussing. The baby was quiet after about 40 seconds. The guy went on for a few minutes.
