So I guess Tim's "jesus loves all of us" schtick only goes so far?

Of course, he could really be that naive to not see an issue with speaking at this specific church.

Due diligence on the guy in charge? If Tebow did his due diligence on God he'd probably be a non-believer.

Is Tebow's appearance at First Baptist Dallas an ipso facto endorsement of Jeffress' views? Not necessarily - he could be there to debate him.

LOL.  Funny on sooo many levels.

I've seen nothing that would make me believe that Tim Tebow isn't as "virulently" anti-gay as this pastor.

Is there a pro-gay megachurch?

I've spent alot of time on my knees at the Folsom Street Fair.  Does that count?

Then, yes.

I still don't get it.  Jesus said NOTHING about homosexuality.  not a damn thing.  nowhere in the New Testament will you find Christ condemning gays.  And the NT is THE book for Christians.  you wanna be a follower of Christ, you read the new testament and you follow those instructions.  which, oddly enough, means we occasionally have to punch the lights out of a banker when they act like jerks...but i'm ok with that.

anyways, back to my point: how can you call yourself a christian and NOT follow the rules your god set down for you to follow?

I'm also quite amused by the Leadership Conference banner ads with him and Beck

yeah...I sometimes get the feeling that a lot of the anti-gay types are self hating in the closet types.  the evangelicals spend more time thinking and talking about gay sex than gays do.

I refuse to believe this.  Everyone know that Tim doesn't have time for this because he's too busy working hard.  He's watching film day and night.  He's in the weight room.  He's working with the QB coaches to take his game to the next level - The Kyle Boller Level.

While the rest of the league is out rapping and gangbanging their babies mommas, TIM is working so hard because he's such a hard worker.

So is Tebow done with the NFL?

I'm willing to bet the only reason Tebow hasn't expressed his views on homosexuality is because the NFL PR machine told him to shut the fark up about the subject and keep it to himself.

He's a pro football player.  I'm willing to bet that in his young life, he's played more naked grab-ass than any gay individual he knows.

This.... I don't think he has said anything either way about it, but, I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't disagree much with the church leader.  But, he could come out and fix that.

I've been around here long enough to know you are not a troll, simple-minded or an idiot, but I can't refrain from stating the obvious: humans are known to be hypocritical from time to time.

2013-02-15 03:02:15 PM
Does anyone know what exactly Tebow generally talks about at these engagements? I'd imagine he gives a fairly bland synopsis of his life story and football career with the obvious intent to focus on his faith and how it affects him and his relationship with teammates and others. Basically a quasi-motivational/"I'm one of you" speech.

2013-02-15 03:08:12 PM
I'm tired of all of this "Tebow=God" crap, but I have to go ahead and assume the best here, since I haven't heard him be an asshole on this yet. Until I hear differently, I'm going with the "Didn't do his homework" theory on this one.

Summon Tim Tebow. He'll straighten this all out for us.

Also, I wasn't aware that First Baptist Dallas was anti-gay & anti-semitic. I already despised them for the adorable way they're building a shiny new campus in downtown Dallas, amid all the homelessness & need. And they are still asking for donations to make it happen. Disgusting.

After months of collecting splinters in your ass, you don't ask questions about any chance to stand up and walk around.

I look forward to the covert video on  YouTube.  This attention makes it more likely.

2013-02-15 03:20:06 PM
It's called "a second career" - Tebow knows his days in the NFL are numbered, so he's banking as much reputation as he can with the fans who got him that far.

Don't be surprised if he becomes a televangelist after he's out of Pro Football. It's good money being a religious pundit - better than being a sports pundit, and with his fanbase, probably better than most political pundits.

I haven't lived in Dallas in a few years, no idea they were building a new church. After a little research, $180 FARKING MILLION, FOR A CHURCH?!?!?!

He's done.  He can't play QB at the NFL level and seems to have too much pride to attempt another position.  If even J'ville doesn't want him for PR reasons, his NFL career is over.

2013-02-15 03:33:34 PM
We need more harsh news articles about Tim Tebow which fail to quote him or give any context to his actions/rumored statements.

I'm not a fan, but it's getting pretty abysmal how many Tebow articles I have to see and how few offer any actual quoted insight to his opinion/sentiment in a matter.

Most Christian based religions totally missed the part where Jesus said to NOT flaunt wealth, or build huge towers of worship, but to instead pray in the silence of your room.

check out Adam Hamilton and his Church of the Resurrection. One of the most progressive mega church leaders around. Even delivered the convocation at the "AntiChrist's" second inauguration.

Well, President Obama was linked to Reverend Wright for simply going to his church. I assume since Tebow actually speaks there with the pastor, their link must be that much stronger. Either that or Fox News is full of shiat.

or he hates the gays and jews too, but his agent has told to shut the fark up and make some money (which he can then spend on supporting his hatred of the jews and gays).

The NFL is an organization run by pretty conservative people and employs pretty conservative people.  Heck two players saying they were OK with a hypothetical gay teammate was big news this year.

Yeah, Tebow is probably there to do a bland "my faith is what kept me humble during the highs and keeps me motivated while I watch Sanchez suck" type of speech.  But it wouldn't shock me if he were a pretty anti-gay dude.

But they nailed the part about putting ashes on your head and not eating meat on Friday until Easter, because Jesus would just be DEVASTATED.

Yeah, it gives me hives every time I think about it. It burns me to even google it so I can have a link to show someone how outrageous the whole thing is. I remember back when I still went to church, they had a moral farking crisis over putting in new carpet because they didn't want it to interfere with their community outreach. So I know all churches aren't like this asshole factory.

If you are waiting for southern baptist christians to actually follow the teachings of christ you are gonna be waiting a really long time. Sue they have a shelter or three and occasionally someone will start a prison ministry but don't think for a second they will be devoting more revenue to serving the poor like old jesus asked them to do. And he even said it very nicely and repeated himself on many occasions. It's all about the prosperity gospel honey. What jesus wants the most is for his followers to have nice things.

Paul was kind of a dick.

Paul was a lot less of a dick then most people understand. A lot of what he said was deeply rooted in social context that few people know.

Take 1Cor:11 in which he says women should all be veiled. Back then slaves and prostitutes weren't allowed to veiled. When he says everyone should be, he is suggesting no one should be anyones property.
But the overall point is valid, Christians (I am one) need to cut this shiat out. Something I greatly appreciate about living in the DC/MD area.

That can be explained away. This one, not so much...

Then He will also say to those on His left, 'Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;
for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink;
I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.
Then they themselves also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?'
Then He will answer them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.'

My guess is they just don't read that one very much anymore. Or some dime store theologian has come up with a way for gay and brown people to be exempt.
