DamnYankees: I don't know why anyone would ever cite them for anything to begin with. Presumably any actual event they covered would just be an AP story.
Lsherm: Can't indoctrinate the kids if you let them read what they want, now can you?Not surprising to see the Fark libs cheering this - they're all closet fascists anyway. And the first thing a fascist does when he takes power is limit the information to propaganda."One of our values at West Liberty is to encourage students to go out and inquire and gather information and look at as many different sources as possible on any side, before you reach your opinion," said Robin Capehart, president of West Liberty University.Whatever you say, Stalin.
vicioushobbit: Because college students (at least freshmen in general) lack the ability to know when somebody's outright lying to them, college professors have to put a little bit of guidance in.No, sonny, you can't credit Wikipedia on that topic. I'm afraid you're going to have to learn about the Dewey Decimal system now...
Cobataiwan: But Jon Stewart is a fine way to get your news.
The Voice of Doom: Marcus AureliusFox News, a professional news organizationSince when has FOX News been a news organization?Yeah. Like Weaver95 mentioned - weren't FOX lawyers the ones who were successfully arguing in court that FOX is providing entertainment and not news?
halfof33: [westliberty.edu image 209x314]Gaze upon the embodiment of Fox News Derangement Syndrome./Looks like a younger and less attractive version of the Church Lady. I bet she is a real hell cat in the sack, though.
Zachery: Later in the syllabus it goes on to mention that students should not abuse white space to make their fact-sparse articles look bigger than they really are.
Nai: http://foxnewsboycott.com/resources/fox-can-lie-lawsuit/"The attorneys for Fox, owned by media baron Rupert Murdoch, argued the First Amendment gives broadcasters the right to lie or deliberately distort news reports on the public airwaves. "Just sayin...
mudesi: Are we still pretending that Fox News is a credible news outlet and not a propaganda machine?
Weaver95: The Voice of Doom: Marcus AureliusFox News, a professional news organizationSince when has FOX News been a news organization?Yeah. Like Weaver95 mentioned - weren't FOX lawyers the ones who were successfully arguing in court that FOX is providing entertainment and not news?something like that. the point being that Fox news went to court to prove they had a legal right to flat out lie to their audience...and they won the case. so...why would you want to listen to an organization that actually put down real money in a real court case to confirm that they've got a legal right to lie to you?I just don't understand the Republicans anymore. they LOVE to be lied too and abused. makes no damn sense if you ask me.
The Bestest: yanno, for someone who claims to not watch Fox News, you were sure quick to this thread
Kome: I think it depends on the context of how you're using the source. I have cited sources that are manifestly absurd and deceitful sources (e.g. Michael Behe and other creationists when writing about science education) because they served as illustrative examples of the point I was trying to make, and not because I in any way support or endorse their views. I could easily see the same use for citing any news media, whether it be Fox or CNN or whatever.
Weaver95: something like that. the point being that Fox news went to court to prove they had a legal right to flat out lie to their audience...a
halfof33: The Bestest: yanno, for someone who claims to not watch Fox News, you were sure quick to this threadI dunno, there were lots of the Syndrome sufferers here long before me.But again folks, lets try not to make every thread about me, mmmm'kay? I mean it is flattering and all, but 16.5 Derangement Syndrome is getting as boring as Fox News Derangement Syndrome.
