2013-02-15 10:44:53 AM
I'll take a hour for me to come to grips that Kubrick likes TV comedies

2013-02-15 10:46:02 AM

Feel better now

2013-02-15 10:48:45 AM
I feel like this totally vindicates my love for that movie. I can watch it every time it's on. It might be the best "guy" movie ever written. The dialogue is terrific.

...so instead of taking an hour, I took two seconds and blurted out "Hot Shots!"

In an hour, I'd've named White Men Can't Jump, though.

2013-02-15 11:02:12 AM
Glad to hear that Kubrick liked American Werewolf in London as well.  That movie is awesome, and the transformation scene is still amazing 32 years later

2013-02-15 11:03:20 AM
He's goin' Sizzler!

JerseyTim: It might be the best "guy" movie ever written.

Nope, that's Roadhouse.  Although WMCJ is a fine choice as well.

They have the robotic heads at Universal Studios theme park. We'll never see that kind of practical FX again.

Subby, you are right. And now I am sad.

2013-02-15 11:25:47 AM
More interesting to me is that he wanted Steve Martin for the lead in what eventually became "Eyes Wide Shut."  Woulda made a  better move than going with Mr. Xenu.

2013-02-15 11:26:01 AM
I guessed Look Who's Talking.
So I was wrong.

2013-02-15 11:32:27 AM
I was thinking Wired Science, especially as I didn't realise White Men Can't Jump is a comedy.

Would it have made any more sense? And bseides having an incomprehensible plot, the movie took itself very, very seriously. I think casting a comedic actor would have made things even worse.

2013-02-15 11:33:39 AM
Is it Look Who's Talking 2?

I bet it's Look Who's Talking 2.

Am I illiterate or did that say that The Jerk was inspiration for Eyes Wide Shut?

you are illiterate

Who cares? Kubrick's responsible for Barry Lyndon, the more-than-three hours of most boring, excruciating time wastage of my entire life.  Theater opening night, more than half the audience left at the mid-movie intermission. I wish the party I was with had.

I can remember when I was a little boy. My grandmother and I could hold conversations entirely without ever opening our mouths. She called it "dry mouthedness." And for a long time, I thought it was just the two of us that had the dry mouthedness to us. Just like you probably thought you was the only one. But there are other folks, though mostly they don't know it, or don't believe it. How long have you been able to do it?... Why don't you want to talk about it?

Mine too.  Make sure you remove it.  Mine started emailing crap to everyone in my contacts about pharmaceuticals and other embarrassing items.

White Men Can't Jump has funny in it? I thought it was the second worst thing Woody Harrelson has ever perpetrated Behind Money Train, of course.

he loved steve martin in the jerk, and wanted cast him in a comedy remake of another film. that film eventually became eyes wide shut.

/imagine steve martin starring in eyes wide shut
//giggity?

The Jerk is my favorite stupid comedy of all time.

"I was born a poor black child..."

"You mean I'm always gonna stay this color?"

"Somebody hates these cans!"

"...and that's all I need!"

2013-02-15 01:22:55 PM
No surprise here. Lots of so-called great artists and deep thinkers have low-brow or even coarse tastes. He probably cracked up at the Three Stooges and/or Benny Hill.

I like to leven my reading of neurology and quantum mechanics with "Farting Preacher" clips, personally.

Thank you! I gave that movie a chance because Kubrick's name was on it, but assumed I found it to be unwatchable because of my own defect.

I may be defective, but that movie was still crap.

Whatever happened to Rosie Perez? She was a favorite of the early-teenage version of me.

Pauly Shore.

Anything with Pauly shore in it.

Had Bachelor Party been made a few years later it would be in the running.
