tchau: Geek girls can be very pretty.  My ex fiance was very pretty, but had everything that made geek/nerd girls what they are including

1) social awkwardness
2) unreasonable hate for anything attractive of the same sex
3) unstable mental makeup
4) love of firefly, neil gaimen, doctor who
5) fluctuating weight gain

She had other mental issues, thus why she's an ex, but there's a lot of very attractive geek/nerd girls

Sounds like women, period.

I had one them too. She also had fantastic tits, a huge libido, and LOVED anal. The relationship lasted far longer than it should have, but I'd go back to visit if hadn't immediately married the next guy to come along.

Zooey Deschanel needs to launch a production company that specializes in greenlighting projects that call for her clothes to get less screen time than her.

Dueling banjos is kind of gay, don't you think?

I never said geek girls couldn't be pretty. I think my fiancee is beautiful. However, I have to ask you this about your ex:  Did she make a habit of posing half-naked on webcams for the world to see?

And did she ever get picked on by other girls-- I mean, really picked on-- for being interested in those mainstream interests like Firefly, Neil Gaiman, and Doctor Who?  Because YES, those things are MAINSTREAM entertainment, not niche media. Doctor Who is one of the most-watched shows on television. Neil Gaiman is a relatively popular writer. Pretty much everything Whedon does is of interest to a large section of society.

Could she tell you how many pips a Captain has on his collar in Star Trek? Could she list Superman's weaknesses? Did she know the rules for 2nd Edition D&D? Did she excel at math and suck at sports? Was she keenly interested in computers or engineering to the point of obsession?

Or did she just like to watch a few science fiction and fantasy shows and read the occasional manga?

This thing is outdated. I don't see Bronies on here, anywhere (unless you count them as Furries).

My ex didn't pose half naked, but she she did do nude modelling for me and has tried it since we broke up, does that matter?

Outside of that there's a lot of geeky stuff about her that isn't mainstream.  She's was highly addicted to bioshock and portal, she does suck at sports (though this is relevant how, lot of girls suck as sports), she can tell you the captain of not only tng, but babylon 5, firefly, and the name of the admiral on a New Hope.

There's attractive people in all forms of stuff.  If we in society keep trying to push them into one form or another we are the idiots.

Me personally, I'm a 6 foot tall asian guy who's 32 years old and built like a Hawaiian warrior who got fat now :).  Typically people from my race (cambodian/vietnamese) are about 5'2", and I was a jock and a nerd.  Learned long ago you can have all of that if you wanted too.

/was no way surprised about Wisconsins Autistic beauty queen
//she is uber pretty

But look how quirky she is! A banjo in her living room! She orders in tomato soup! SO MANY BOOKS!

Add 9 cats, a giant fuzzy dog, and way too many farking houseplants and you have the living room I grew up with. Plus ceiling leaks.

I understand the faux-geek concept: someone who puts on the trappings of geekdom without doing the things that geeks do. But the idea has no credibility as long as we accept passive media fans as true geeks.

I'm talking about the ones who have never made a costume or built any kind of gizmo or done any experiments or put on a show or even written a fanfic: they do nothing but consume, yet we accept them as true geeks. Zooey Deschanel is at least as geeky as any of these, and I say that without knowing what if any geeky things she does, because even if she does nothing, neither do they, yet we accept them. We must also accept her, or else brand the passive media-fans as faux-geeks alongside her, or else become hypocrites of the sort we often deride the mainstream for being.

What's the right answer? I honestly don't know. I think a lot of the more passive folks could use a swift kick in the butt to spur them into activity. At the same time, if there is any kind of underlying principle to geekdom as a whole, it is that we don't exclude people, and that is a principle I would rather not betray.

I'm just mad as someone who wears glasses that all these trendy assholes think wearing glasses is somehow cool. No, it sucks and it means I have crappy eyes, so people with good vision that wear glasses are almost rubbing it in from my perspective. I also don't like that half the glasses options now are some stupid hipster "geek" glasses, which makes it worse since I prefer rectangular frames.

/geek by "glasses" association.
//a rare glasses rant
