Why does the NCAA hate active camouflage so much?

If there's one thing I hate more than non-natural colored football fields, it'shiatler.

I'd like to see the broadcasters use their technology to turn the field green for television viewers.  That blue shiat is unwatchable.

After RTFA... you know, I'm pretty sure the NCAA's not going to be happy until they force Boise St. to shut down the football program altogether.

I'm sorry, but that looks cool.  I don't care what anyone else says.  I guess it's the alternating colors - the monotone fields at Boise St. and the all-red Eastern Washington field just give me a headache.

Yes, according to the article. Green jersey or pants, but not both.

Maybe they think Boise State is getting an unfair advantage, I don't know. But it's all about TV dollars, and blue turf is bad enough. But blue turf, blue jerseys and blue pants looks horrible on TV.

It's weird, because blue is the most "tv-friendly" color there is. But that field looks bad on standard def. and even worse in high def.

Don't forget Miami (FL), and South Florida, and UAB, and Marshall, and Tulane, and Ohio, and Eastern Michigan, and Colorado State, and Hawaii, and North Texas, and Mississippi Valley State, and North Dakota State, and occasionally Oregon.

I think the fact that it's pretty much the exact same shade of blue influenced the decision. Mich. St, Baylor, etc, can wear green, but it'll still stand out against the grass.

Illinois should move to an all-orange field. If we can't beat any opponents, we can at least annoy the hell out of everyone.

Eastern Washington's field has red turf, so if EWU wears all read, the rule would probably apply to them.

I can't watch a game on TV with the blue turf.  It's very disorienting.

When I was at UF, we wore orange home jerseys and orange helmets--with orange end zones. It always seemed like they were trying to make it hard for our own QB to see the receivers.

On the other hand, the offense was "hand it to Emmitt," so I'm not sure we actually had receivers.

Yeah, it's probably a TV thing, especially with TV showing the LOS and first down markers. If a team is wearing the exact color as the field, I'm sure the guys in the tuck would have a head 'splosion.

Stupid rule is stupid.

I think this most likely has NOTHING to do with other coaches or teams' complaints (of which there are a number from the "I have no penis" folks), and has EVERYTHING to do with NBC/CBS/ABC/ESPN and other networks complaining that it looks terrible on TV.

I would be inclined to agree except that the chairman of the Rules Committee is Troy Calhoun, the head coach of Air Force.  The MWC had barred Boise State from wearing blue on blue when they first came to the conference but relented on that when BSU decided to not go to the Big East and stay in the MWC.  So it would seem that that the timing of this rule change is either pretty coincidental or Calhoun is targeting BSU.

I agree that blue on blue looks terrible on TV, so I'm not shedding any tears if this rule gets adopted.  I just don't like that Calhoun is the driving force behind it.

Can you imagine trying to have the field keep up with Oregon's uniforms?

"OK guys, for this weekend we need the field painted in alternating neon green, black, and uhh...is that magenta?"

Been to a few games in Boise: the 'smurf does indeed look awful on TV, but not quite so bad in person; and if you're down on field-level I think the camouflage effect just about disappears.

It would also be true for Oregon (if Phil Knight wasn't involved in their jersey design), the New York Jets, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Green Bay Packers, and the Seattle Seahawks for the colorblind.

Yeah, the NCAA is all about TV revenues these days.  I'd imagine if you're actually on the field, you'd be able to tell the difference between the field and BSU players.
