Meh... It comes and goes. I loved the video of her, though. No wonder they didn't want her on the Consumer Protection Bureau. Or whatever the f*ck it is. She would have used that position to claim some scalps. As well someone should.

CFPB. And everyone working there now just about is a Lizzie disciple.  She got some of the best and brightest to come with her to the revolution and while she ain't there her spirit is definitely still strong there..and as a regular visitor to 1700G  I will say its inspiring to see

Why do you want to lobotomize the Senate?

Much better headline than the other one.

Indeed, we need them right where they are.

I less than 3 Liz Warren.

You go, Liz.

Kick some ass and take some names.

Probably all bark and no bite.  Let's see how things are a few years from now.

2013-02-15 12:25:01 AM
Looks like someone is going to be pegging the SEC, with only the minimum of lube. This is worthy of popcorn.  If she does this right she would make a good president.

2013-02-15 12:29:23 AM
Ok libs, I'm sure you think this whole bank regulation thing is important, but what about Benghazi?

2013-02-15 12:30:54 AM
Either this will die down or she'll end up committing suicide by shooting herself five times in the back of the head. Any trial will bring down most congressmen and the last four presidents, not to mention ruin a money laundering outlet for the CIA. The bankers can't be touched because the politicians are up to their eyeballs in cahoots with them.

/cahoots, i say!

This might be the first time that a member of that committee

A) knew what the hell they were talking about
B) actually gave a damn about doing their jobs

BRAVO, Senator!

That's a good question...Lindsey Graham should threaten to block the appointment of a White House groundskeeper until Warren - and the groundskeeper - answer some questions about Benghazi.

hey remember when everyone cried because Obama "caved to the GOP" and didn't appoint her to the CFPB? Boy I do. good times.

log_jammin: hey remember when everyone cried because Obama "caved to the GOP" and didn't appoint her to the CFPB? Boy I do. good times.

She would have been good at the gig but the GOP made stopping her from becoming Director job one.

Libs were rightfully pissed at the GOP's tactics then and to a lesser extent Obama's capitulation about that.

Flash forward to today where Liz Warren is a sitting Senator with buzz surrounding her about a nom in 2016.

Obama did a recess appointment for Cordray at the CFPB and he's doing his job despite the GOP threatening to challenge his appointment in court.

Pretty sure the GOP did not see all that coming but it wasn't part of a grand plan it's just how things worked out.

The law of unintended consequences is a sword that cuts both ways.

maybe not a "grand plan" but it wasn't exactly random either.

Agreed. The GOP made efforts to not give her any power and the Dems responding by redoubling their efforts on her behalf and running her against Scottie "2Hottie" Brown. To which the GOP replied by trying desperately to discredit her but finding nothing. They ended up being reduced to touting that lame Faux-cahontas thing like it had legs, Oh yeah, that *and* repeatedly referring to her as "professor" in Massachusetts like it was some kind of an insult or something.

I think of it as being kinda like a chess game where the GOP thought they'd taken her off the board but then Obama moved a few pawns around and *BOOM* new Queen on the scene.

Not a perfect analogy but ya see where I'm going with that.

2013-02-15 03:02:54 AM
TL,DR?

They struck her down and she became more powerful than they could have imagined.

This is just sad...

It's funny how the people testifying probably came from said banks and will likely go work for them after their gig in gov't.

There should be a law.

Excellent.  Let's take a bite out of organized crime.

There is!
Two actually, so we don't have to share.

The bankers get theirs, we get ours and heeeeyyy, wait a second
....*mumble mumble..carry the 3*

...yeah, guys, I think this Liz Warren biatch might be on to something here.

2013-02-15 04:52:01 AM
I'm glad she's on the Banking Committee, but man, I can't help but wonder how many scalps she would have collected if Obama had had the balls to appoint her over Cordray to the CFPB.

2013-02-15 04:54:05 AM
I like how everyone thinks this somehow embarrassed the bank regulators,  Oh, yeah, Warren SURE showed them with her fancy talkin' ways.  I mean, in order for them to be embarrassed, they would first have to develop a sense of shame.  Then they would have to work on growing a conscience, so they would feel bad for all but publicly taking bribes or directly working for those they are charged with regulating.

Wake up sheeple!

/only half sarcastic

I guess some of them are thinking.. 'this is embarrassing  but if I actually did my job, BoA would stop sending me daily hookers and blow!'

Serious Black: I'm glad she's on the Banking Committee, but man, I can't help but wonder how many scalps she would have collected if Obama had had the balls to appoint her over Cordray to the CFPB.

She probably would have collected none.

They currently have next-to-no power, everything involved with it is a partisan battle...  the current appointment was made in pro-forma session and might get smacked down if challenged.... Warren very well could have traded a historic Senate run and the seat that came with her victory for a brief and frustrating 2 yr appointment that amounted to nothing.

There is still a good chance that whole bureau will be neutered into irrelevancy. The fat cats are pushing hard for this to not be headed by a director but by a Congressional or Senatorial committee that they can load up with useless members and slush off to 'Lol you thought we cared about consumers' world.

There are few things more powerful than being a US Senator.
I'll repeat: we need her right where she is.

So as a righteous crusader for justice regardless of party she'll be calling Geithner in for a similar grilling, right?

PreMortem: It's funny how the people testifying probably came from said banks and will likely go work for them after their gig in gov't.

Or vice versa. When Paulson took his job as Sec of Treasury he was able to sell all ~$500 million in stock with no capital gains tax.

I don't know, I think they're probably used to being henpecked.
