dammitsomuch, tigerose, you are gonna raise the bar so high, NOBODY is gonna be able to compete!  Unless we can get spinnyr to toss in some ded spermz...  which reminds me - I need to get in touch with her to order more because the kitties love 'em and the puppy eats 'em...  I am down (from 4) to two, one of which has no tail...

However, as you can now tell, she's a camera whore :)

Well, she will after she finishes destroying that peacock feather.

Update from last week. That wound is healing fine. She was a bit annoyed that the vet shaved the hair around it so the scab wouldn't envelope her fur, but she forgot about all about it after a treat and some scritches behind her ears.

She was the first baby born in our town's health center. More of a walk-in care/clinic, it is far from a 'hospital'. The OB told us "We can have this baby here in my office (it was 6am) or quite possibly in an ambulance en route to Bangor or Blue Hill."

We looked at each other and said "here sounds good". She was born an hour later.

Shaving only temp solution as Biscuit's Fur Grows Back. Yakko looks only a little furrier than that normally, he's one of Furrnandina's sons.  Clipped Wakko with scissors few days ago to remove drooley mats, he's now much better.

Good Sophie!  Did you ever figure out what caused the wound?  Theo likes to play in the kitchen sink - I almost always have the garbage disposal closed off with a sink strainer, but he's very fascinated with it, and will put his tootsies down there if he can (like when the strainer is in the dishwasher - I may need to buy a spare)...  scares the crap outta me, even though only Zara would be devious enough to jump up there and flip the switch and she's too chunky to do so...

We looked at each other and said "here sounds good". She was born an hour later.

That is a great story!

I rang up cuz I got me Verizon cell & can do long distance free gratis. Since El Damon was able to leave all 16 at the Vet Care Ctr, bet he's gone home to collapse. Wonder if he'll even dare to go to work tomorrow!
Plumbicon was out doing Singing Valentines all day, 8AM-6PM. Then he tore into my new camera to try to retrieve the coaching vids from my chorus (no luck yet). Also no saving space! Had to attach outboard drive bought for PDFs of chorus music library, not yet begun. But MicroCtr always has drives on sale it seems, so oughta be able to Buy Another furr Intended Purpose soon.
Oh, sorry haven't the foto from his phone of a Leonberger dog where one of the numerous Valentines was delivered. Lovely furry girl ... this foto's from Wikipedia & is a female.  Males have a lion-y mane by design.  Leonberg is in Baden-Wurttenburg province of Germany, which bet I mis-spelt.

[i211.photobucket.com image 640x531]

Is this shaving thing a permanent solution to his horrible hairballs???

Well....it was either that or Nair.

Actually, he seems like he's into it. It makes him look like a little kid again.
[i211.photobucket.com image 640x548]

Is that going to be a full-time solution? Does he have to always be shaved?? Or is it until you and the vet can come up with something else? Just curious.... loves me some Sweet Biscuit! :D

We plan on keeping him trimmed. Between that and laxatone a couple of times a week that should keep the gut clogging hairballs at bay.
The vet had no other suggestions. They couldn't find anything else wrong with him. There's a holistic vet nearby that we may visit if we feel he's still having hairballs issues. In this case I think a holistic approach might be the best way to help him.

farm9.staticflickr.com

I'm about ready to look into shaving Cassie... She's not horking hairballs (or getting them stuck, as far as we know...), but the matting is HORRIBLE!!  She's hard to keep brushed, particularly her tummy (which is where the worst mats are).  We've been trying to cut them down as far as we can & then try to brush out the rest, but she's NOT impressed... Her mats are really close to the skin, so I'm terrified I'll end up cutting her.  Usually the guy holds her down while I work on part of a mat at a time.  **Sigh**

tigerose quoted & typed above, it is the power of google. The info is out there for anyone who can copy/paste. I'll add to that, the power of GoodSearch is even better! It'll give pennies per hit to a qualifiying 501c3 of your choice.  I chose my own SwAdelines chorus, which qualifies.
Also, as snarky side comment, I personally refer to Google as Gurgle.

rev. dave: My cat was a rescue from foreclosure.  But was outside when rescued.

What's sad is how common this happens. We've taken in so many cats left behind when people lose their homes. We took in a litter of kittens that a landlord found in the closet a few days after his tenants moved out. Luckily he checked the house when he did or the kittens would have died in there,. I don't know why people just can't bring them to a shelter or rescue instead of leaving them behind to die.

I don't know if you were here when we had Vanna. Her family lost their home, moved out and left her there, pregnant. She was starved until a neighbor found her and gave her to us.

When I turned 30 all those years ago I had a discussion with my folks. "Thirty-nine years old" (wink wink) did not add up when one's offspring was facing the big three-oh.

They agreed...and I got to be "21" for as long as I could pull it off.

I have talked to most of the neighbors and the area seems pretty cat friendly. The folks right next door said their dogs would do damage but I have seen cats around the garage and I think mine will stay clear of the dogs. I want to keep them locked in for a week or so and then let them out for short periods of time.
I need to move the three chicks out of the house and into the chicken tractor. I may put Suzy in with them, she fostered my last batch and since she is crippled the other chickens are mean to her.
I am sure the girl kitties will be glad to get out of the chicken tractor that has been their home for the last four months.
Still trying to get the water to stay inside the pipes in the house, it keeps finding new and different ways of getting out. I fixed one valve to the the toilet in the master bath, only to find the pipe is cracked just below the floor level. Fun Stuff.

tigerose: John Buck 41: OlderGuy: I will be monitoring while I call my 'lil sis'..  today is her birthday...

My daughter's (30th!) birthday today. Yikes. When your child is turning 30, you know you're gettin' up there.

Just wait til she turns 50! I will be Nifty 50 this year..My Mom insists I cannot be that old! Because that makes her older.. :) My son will be 19 this year. I still remember seeing him in the operating room! There is joy in them thar years!

Good meowning everybuddy!

This made me laugh 'cuz I now suspect my Grandma is in denial about her age. She got mad at my sister (and do not remember why, exactly) and I walked in with Gran's afternoon meds and snack just in time to hear her yell "You won't even make it to 40 if you keep up like this!" Since my Norwegian sucks, I double checked with my sis and I did understand it correctly. This, of course, made us both laugh. The more one would laugh, the more the other laughed. Now my Gran is so mad, you guize!!! When the laughing died down to snickering, my sis told Gran "I've been over 40 for a while now, Gran". Gran looks at her in total shock, asks how old she is, then says "You look really good for your age". This made us start laughing again, of course.

Only in my family can you go from looking like you're going to drop dead at any second from your less than healthy ways to looking "really good" in a matter of seconds.

Gotz to catch up with what you all were up yesterday/last night. In the meantime, ear and booty butt skritches to all the critters and big "BOOs!!!" at bad stuff for everyone who has family or personal bad things happening and "YAY!!!" for everyone with a happee or good news to share and of course, a mewbie that strongly reminds me of one of those bobble head things, but cute instead of strangely disturbing.

domari: rev. dave: My cat was a rescue from foreclosure.

[farm6.staticflickr.com image 500x371]

Yup. I've rescued more than one cat locked inside apartments in the past. I "allegedly" broke into the one right next door to me many years ago to rescue two cats abandoned by the farkwads who had just moved out. Also, my GoGo Beastie was probably from a family that lost their home. When we first saw her, she was horribly skinny and obviously scared of everything (which she still is - skittish, not skinny). When I finally managed to catch her and get her to our vet, she was chipped, but the information was all bad. We had a lot of foreclosures in our neighborhood back then, so we think she was left behind, probably with half their furniture. That kind of thing just ticks me off so much. We're talking white hot anger when I see animal abuse or neglect. I have a hard time controlling my temper when it goes, too. You simply do not treat another living creature that way - that's incredibly dishonorable behavior. GRRRR!

But hey! I gotz a purty kitteh out of it! Four years later, she's lookin' good and my usually happy Pretty Pretty Princess, even if she is still skittish and the weirdest cat I've ever been slave to - which is saying a lot.

Now, a cat who is either singing to us or praying no other kittehs go through the nightmares the poor abandoned kittehs everywhere go through when betrayed that way by their own hoomins.

Hearing about abandoned animals reminded me of a dog named Sandy. Sandy was a golden retriever mix that lived across the street from me when I was younger. She seemed to live a happy life with a family that cared for her, never beaten or starved with plenty of affection. The child in the family graduated and moved out of town. The parents divorced and put the house up for sale. We found Sandy about week after the parents moved out. She was sitting at her front door wanting to be let in. Thinking she had gotten loose from wherever she was staying and come home, we took her in and tracked down the parents. Neither one had wanted her after the divorce so they just moved out and left her there. We got the son's phone number and gave him a call and wanted to know if he wanted Sandy. He was very upset at what his parents had done to his poor dog. They hadn't even told him they didn't want the dog. So we held onto Sandy for a couple of weeks until he could come back to town and take her to his new home. They were very happy to be reunited. Sandy was at least 10 at the time and to think that anyone could just walk off and leave her like that was unimaginable.

Two days off and I have spent it running around doing "stuff". Check Verizon store, re-upgrade. Go to the grocery, go to the bank, go alllll the way out to the fabric store for industrial strength thread-two colors. Also known as button thread/carpet thread. Oh and a two for one button card sale..and 15% off...helped someone put together parts for a Flapper outfit. (My good deed for the day)..then to the grocery again..out of wine..got my hair done..no more frosty roots! :)

Played birdy with Eli. Filled his catnip pepper..gave scritches..reminded guest that Eli is a 3 pets you are done kinda kitteh..Made him chase treats..I toss them, he retrieves and eats them. I try not to laugh as he skitters across the floor..he's been nuts lately! Playin mousie at all times of the day/night...leaving it for me to step on in the morning...before coffee...eeek! It's like he is kittenish again. Suppose he has Spring Fever??

It is Spinnyr that sells the ded spermz. Until then, a suggestion...I make what I call "potatoes". You take the toe of a pair of pantyhose..or a knee high, I'm forever getting runs in them! Stuff it with cotton balls or batting, sprinkle liberally with da nip. Knot the end, then turn inside out and knot again. There is something about the weight of this toy and the mouth feel that really make kittehs happy. I created this toy when I was a starving college student and had a manic Siamese to amuse! Oh yes, this toy has the DragonTM Seal of approval!

5 years ago tomorrow I met my sweet Ellie.  She rescued me.  I'm sure there are folks who think I rescued her but it really she who rescued me.

I found her on the street in my neighborhood.  She was a recent kitty mom but there were no babies near her.  She was starving and very sick.  And feral

i112.photobucket.com

My vet did her thing (tests) and asked me what I was going to do with the kitty.  I said 'Keep her of course'  I swear my vet smiled.

I named her Ellie after my mom...Ellie was very angry when I picked her up off the street...she called me names.  MOM!!! (my Mom had Alzheimer's and called me a Son of a biatch, Dirty Bastard and a Whore.)  I still laugh at that.  I'm a biatch yes but I am a daughter, not a bastard and I'm sure someone thinks I am a ho (I am not of course).

Ellie and I have a huge connection now of course.  She is on the couch behind me right now.

For a former feral, she is a love.  It took 2 months before i could hold her.  And from there we connected.  It took 6 months till she decided she needed to sleep on my bed and I wasn't going to kill her.  Now she sleeps with me every night and snuggles next to me.

For a former feral, she is a love.  It took 2 months before i could hold her.  And from there we connected.  It took 6 months till she decided she needed to sleep on my bed and I wasn't going to kill her.  Now she sleeps with me every night and snuggles next to me.

Happy Gotcha Day Ellie....(and if anyone wants to see her blog it is at  http://ellientheheathens.blogspot.com/ )

Happi Gotch Day Ellie! I am so glad that you decided to enrich CrankiAndy's life. She would not be the same without you. Her calves would be so cold in winter, there would not be that insistant soul at dinner time. You have filled a space that needed to be made whole. Thank you kitteh. You are awesome!

she has enriched my life.  She is my heart cat.  We all have one.  She is mine.  She has my heart and I know I have hers.  I love my little Ellie Belly.

gremlin1: Hearing about abandoned animals reminded me of a dog named Sandy.

Oh, I bet that was a reaaaallll interesting call

Son: So Mom/Dad, how's Sandy doing?
Mom/Dad: Oh, she's great. Got a nice big yard to run in. Very happy.
Son: (Looks down at Sandy) Did you hear that Sandy, Mom/Dad says you're running in a nice big yard
Mom/Dad: Oh Fudge.......

CrankiAndi yes, they do creep into our hearts don't they? I have been very blessed. I have had three kittehs who were heart worms..Porky the black feral cat, who would let me do everything with him. Including laying on his back and stretching the length of my legs. While purring like a maniac. He let me brush his teeth after his jaw surgery. ( he had been hit by a car and lost an eye, broke his jaw..might have been a fan belt too..he returned after 3 days, with the eye out of its socket)...Aiko kitteh..crazy Siamese. I was her Momma. No one else could handle her. Eli of course. He spreads his love to all the family. He is a terror, but he is our terror!

I use Firefox for a browser and they have an add-on for Photobucket that lets me add more pics.
Maybe whatever browser you use has a similar add-on,

CrankyAndi: 5 years ago tomorrow I met my sweet Ellie.  She rescued me.  I'm sure there are folks who think I rescued her but it really she who rescued me.

I found her on the street in my neighborhood.  She was a recent kitty mom but there were no babies near her.  She was starving and very sick.  And feral

[i112.photobucket.com image 850x637]

"you don't live here" part 7

   (continued from last caturday)

The week before the Vet visit to fix the silent feral mother and her kittehs three, things happened that forced my hand.

The two mewbies were now exploring but the grey one would not eat much - she was failing to thrive and didn't seem to care. So, I found myself standing in the baby food aisle, holding a jar of organic chicken paste.

Obviously, something was going horribly awry here - these cats? Are not ours - no,no,no. My husband hoisted a brow "Something I need to know?" Caught, I was caught! "It's a new diet?" (that won't work) "It's for a recipe" (yeah, no). "Science project?" (no dice).

"Okay, its for the grey one, happy?" .........."I see - how goes the search for a home?".........."Look! Over there! A sale at the deli!"

And now began the coaxing and hand feeding. Her brother thinks this is the best thing ever (this will change when he finds cat nip) she? "whatever" She is a tiny, lazy eater with questionable genes. It took the 5 minutes of putting the chicken paste and spoon away for one of the hawks nesting near by to over-fly the porch.

"She's not a mouse, damnit" annnnnnd, now, I am basically - yes, yes, yelling at clouds.

"you don't live here" part 8

Having her grey mewbiethreatened by, and rescued from, a hawk mom-cat became more approachable. Then again, maybe it was the baby food she found on the faces of the pair. In any event, still silent, she had made two tentative forays into the house following her first born Fuzzle - and promptly leaving immediately.
Excellent timing - they were all scheduled for fixing and "shotting" in 24 hours and her inside was half the battle.

Then, about dusk, it began to rain. Late afternoon summer rain that spends all day forming and then dumps a couple inches in the space of an hour - a downpour. The mewbies in the concrete planter had been shielded by the immense plant there - immense because it always was well watered by the roof run off. Their mother was nowhere in sight.

I cursed - fretted - cursed. Found myself standing over the planter, in the dark, with an open umbrella because, damnit, I don't want these kittens. "Bring them in, you know you want to." Ah, the voice of satan coming from my husband's mouth.

"If I bring them in, mom-cat will eat them"- "Mom? That's hamsters"

"If I bring them in, she'll reject them." - "Mom? She's not a bird"

"If I bring them in, she'll move them." "Maybe, but if you don't move them they are going to drown while you get electrocuted"

So we scooped them up - wet, shivery, one of them looking more like a mouse than ever - and brought them inside into one of the toweled-bed carriers where their older brother already napped.

From across the yard came a dark streak, moving at cheetah speed, and stopping under the porch bench. I called her, with no hope - "here, kitty" doesn't work with ferals - and she had to cross a 10 foot span of flooded pavement in a downpour.

Door open to the rain I let the mewbies cry - and, she came in. She spent the night hard against the now closed door, nervous and wide-eyed. I was too - the Vet visit was tomorrow.

to be continued....

I wanted to strangle the groomer that did this to Wolf. We had it done at one of the large pet store franchises. When we picked him up I was floored, but here was no sense in arguing after the damage was done. We just payed the groomer and I recommended that she listen to her customers more closely in the future. She gave us some BS that her trimmer "only had one setting." The truth was that this was the only cut she knew how to do.

I prefer just a general even thinning. Our current groomer does that nicely.

Well, to be blunt, I was thinking that that was not quite the most becoming trim -- if your boys don't mind the noise, you could probably do it yourself with a hoomin "hair trimmer" that you could buy for about $20 - which includes about 8 different guides depending on how short you want it. *disclaimer* Not that I would ever attempt to do that to Dragon, unless I wanted to die a very slow, very painful death.... :o)

That's odd??? It looks pretty even.
Did you have a vet look at it?

[i211.photobucket.com image 393x190]

Yeah, it is an allergy, prolly frm the neighbors "dyed" bedding. Last yr we started using cortisone cream, applied before he ate..the tummy issues did much better, He did not develope the blisters he has had in the past. So this spring I will be dousing him early!

sherpa18: yobbery: sherpa18: / poor biscuit - while i understand the necessity, may i be so bold as to inquire why he could not get a respectable "lion cut"? I could never do that to him. *snip* I wanted to strangle the groomer that did this to Wolf. She gave us some BS that her trimmer "only had one setting."

[i415.photobucket.com image 290x298]

I can understand that. He still has the messy lambs wool look, but if he's anything like Wolf it should even out in about a week. He's also not nearly as two toned as he seems in those pics.

We were delusional once and bought a good trimmer. Very slow, very painful death indeed! I'll happily pay a groomer rather than try that again. I now use the trimmers for my sideburns.

I think this is my favorite picture of Wolf. It perfectly depicts his personality.

Sorry I'm late... just got Gizzard from the Vets an hour or so ago... (she had her girly *no more heat* operation today).
Tell me how, again...I'm suppose to keep her calm and quiet? This 'cone' thing is a big game to her! I play with all 4 of mine with (modified) cones..... Mt. Dew 12-pk box 'necklaces'......lunch bags (with eye holes) -- a la Maru....
This cone just makes her the stonedest kitteh wif the kewlest necklace -- and the other 3 want it!
I'll get some warm, loving, 'sisterly' pics of them tomorrow.

Yep, I'm the Dedd Spermz lady. And as soon as I finish up this Dr. Who scarf for Haruko, I'll get a head start on them. This time (for giggles) I'll make male & females!!
Anybody want to throw out a number for how many inches long this here scarf is suppose to be? I have +130" now.

Our puppy was abandoned in a house when the owner died. The person who was supposed to be taking care of the estate came in, took anything of value, locked up the house and walked away . Luckily, the house was rented, and the owner of the house entered a week latter.
The real kicker is that when the ass who abandoned the dogs found out that the puppies were worth $500 each, and the breeding parents considerably more, he tried to claim them. He was told if he pursued ownership, they would charge him with 6 counts of felony animal cruelty. (mom, dad, and four puppies). I'm ticked they let him walk without charges.
I just hope the owner of the rental went after him for the damages caused by six dogs being locked in a house for a week.

My wife works with several rescues, and it's heart breaking the amount of abuse these people document. What's maddening is that even with good proof and documentation, most abuse cases are never prosecuted.

It goes all the way to the ceiling next to a five shelf bookshelf. The other took me a week to find out was locked in the foreclosure. Her name is chuck Norris now. She is a survivor and a cuddle bug. We figured sandy made us homeless, and assholes made them homeless, so perfect fit for us. 300 bucks in vet bills later it was well worth it. They are awesome.

One of my pussies was abandoned in a foreclosure house.  Sometime in 09 one of my neighbors walked away from their house, leaving with it an absolutely gorgeous, previously indoor only, white/gray cat with blue eyes.  They just left the poor kitty in the house with the rear sliding door wide open.  I didn't know it was there until a couple months later when I found it emaciated and cowering under some bushes in my front yard. After talking to a neighbor I found out that the poor thing had been wandering in and out of the empty house since the owners had left.  I don't know what the fark was wrong with the neighbor that apparently just watched a slowly starving cat from their window but I started feeding the thing and now it has made my backyard its home.  It is now fat and happy.

5monkeys: I just did this. With two cats. One the people left in a tree and I got right away. Her name is spiderpig now and she has a fantastic cat tower that she loves.

Good on you!!! :D

I don't understand people.  Chuck Norris was locked in the house for a week.  They didn't even leave the door open.  No food, no water and they just walked away.  If we didn't take her out when we did I have no idea how long it would have been before someone found her.  My best guess is that she was drinking from the toilet.  Otherwise she would have died,

Thanks!  Chuck is the one jumping on the tower.  Spiderpig always moves too fast.  If I tried to get a shot of her it would be nothing but blur.

That would be awesome! We'll have to be patient though, if I recall correctly, you have to wait 24 hours after creating an account before you are allowed to post...

5monkeys, Ima4 Thank you both for your efforts. I do not understand people who willingly abandon their animals. But I do know there is a special room in hell for them. Karma will catch up eith them, and if we are lucky, God will let us watch! :)

Hey Haruko_, been neglecting you, sorry for that too.
BigBooper typing on pg 8, your pooch's highly lucky someone came to save him/her/it from asshat who left him/her/it, sibs & parents in locked house!
Also conga-cats to 5monkeys for 2rescues typed just above where I now type.
More loss yet, was advised in early e-mail that veteran member of our local radio club died last eve. He'd ailed for years, so it was really for the better.

That's what I told the kids.  They kept asking how someone could do this.  I said that I didn't know.  But one day they will have to answer for it.  Our bird has been with us for 8 years.  I found her in my backyard.  She flew right down to me. She is a cockatiel, super friendly and well trained.  I called every pet store, vet and shelter looking for an owner.  No luck.  Then someone told me people just open the window and let them go if they don't want them anymore.  I hope this isn't true for our bird.  She would have died too.  They can't survive on their own in NJ.  I have a habit of collecting animals that need homes.
