So...on Thursday night, shortly after dinner, I looked at Caesar and was like WTF, what did you do to your ear?? Turns out he had an aural hematoma. Basically, one or more blood vessels in his ear broke and his ear swelled up and filled with blood. It looked like it was ready to burst. This is not the first time this has happened to him but it was the first time since we've had him. Apparently, in the past when this has happened, it was not taken care of properly and that is why he has cauliflower ears. Long story short, CDK took him to see the doc on Friday. it was decided to not have the button surgery done but, instead, to drain all that blood and then inject his ear with steroids. He is also on pred for a couple of weeks to see if that helps. Since his ears had no sign of infection or mites, the doc thinks it may be some sort of food allergy causing him to scratch so we'll be switching food to see if that helps.

I didn't get a picture of his ear on Thursday but I wish I had. It was swollen about 4 times more than it is now and pointed straight out like Pippi Longstocking's braids. Here's a pic of how his ear looks tonight, still full of steroids, and one of him just looking sad sitting with CDK a little while ago. Poor guy...you can tell he still just isn't feeling right :(
