They don't plan to charge the student with any crime.

Geez, really? Jogging with a garden tool near a school isn't a crime yet? Cue the outrage, lets pass some more laws to protect the children.

Wow. I am embarrassed that our country is this jumpy. How pathetic.

"The student who brought in the shovel is not facing any criminal charges, neither is the teacher who the shovel belongs to.

The school was in lockdown for approximately two hours. Classes resumed after the lockdown, however, concerned parents were allowed to pick up their children. "

WHAT THE F*CK???

Two hours of not sitting in class is always a good thing.

This is great start to a sweet police state

Good thing he wasn't carrying a Tweety bird key chain. Cops would have had to use deadly force.

I think we should have a candlelight vigil and media orgy anyway.

Throughout the lockdown, officials with Meridian police asked parents to gather at the nearby LDS Church

Where a visibly disturbed Mitt Romney repeatedly attempted to convert them all to Mormonism en masse with a single wave of his hand.

Only the military should have "military-style" shovels. There's no practical reason any citizen would need one. I think most undertakers would agree.

Trained teachers should be carrying trowels in ankle holsters. The shovel carriers will never know just who has one.

Yes, this is what we've become. GD if a kid brings in a Transformers Toy it'll be thought to be a nuclear weapon soon. Knee-jerk pants-wetting school administrators. I'm sure now that school will require a 'permit' to bring anything that 'may be considered to look like a weapon'. You know, like a metal pen or those damn #2 pencils, you could get lead poisoning!

Well, it was black.

Also, what kinda clip did it take? Need to know that so I can classify it as an assault shovel since it's black.

Schools are dangerous these days.

HOW DANGEROUS ARE THEY???

So dangerous that kid are digging foxholes.

Beat me to it. Dang. Here goes:

When they outlaw military-style folding shovels, only outlaws will have military-style folding shovels.

Oh come on.  Apply some common sense to "zero tolerance".

I carry one of those, and an MRE and a couple of bottles of water in the trunk of my car because you never know.....if I didn't have 'em, I might wish I did at some point.

For those of you who don't want to click, the thread is about a guy that made a semi-auto AK out of a shovel.  Yes, really.  Just a shovel and parts that you can buy without background checks.

Zero tolerance exists to replace discretion to protect the fragile sensibilities of callow administrators that cave to obnoxious parents and fail to back their teachers in any meaningful way.

My high school started doing that crap in the early 90s. The sh*t you could be suspended and/or expelled for defies all logic.

Does anybody remember that scene in the movie All Quiet On The Western Front where the platoon sergeant shows his soldiers 90 different ways to kill with your military issued shovel?

Everyone seems to think it'd be difficult to take over the US, but with enough shovels I'm certain terrorists could succeed.

2013-02-14 09:57:55 PM
Shiat like this is why I do not want armed guards who are not trained police officers anywhere near schools.

Not to belittle the badassness of the spetsnaz by any means, but I think anyone with arms that aren't made of spaghetti could kill quite a few people with that thing. It's sharp. And serrated.

But anyone could essentially kill anyone with almost anything, given proper motivation.

They take nail clippers and tweezers away in planes, but I'm pretty sure a decent pen is a LOT deadlier.

/Maybe I'm just more imaginative then most?

They called them Lobos in WWZ.

Quite handy in close zombie combat.

2013-02-14 09:58:02 PM
Well, to be fair, 'military style shovels' have killed more people than have ever been shot in school shootings.
