I don't know how old you are, but lunch boxes used to be all metal.  And if you got the hand me down it came with bonus rusty razor sharp corners.

Hell yea, my girlfriend has one of the old school Scooby Doo lunch boxes from the '70s. Her daughter uses it to haul around her DS and other Nintendo stuff.

Good for  NASCAR. I hope they raise a bundle of money for the bereaved relatives. They've gone through hell.

Really now, subby, don't be asinine.

That's a Toyota, not a Ford.

Oh, that car will be in the line-up for Daytona... even if Mikey has to hire someone to qualify it for him.

It's not an MWR car though. Swan racing hired Mikey to race the 500 instead of Stremme. I don't know who Swan racing is, but I have a feeling they don't have the strongest equipment in the field. Mikey has been good at plate tracks, but qualifying in plate races and racing the event are two different beasts. We'll probably see someone else get penalized by NASCAR so we can get a feel good car in the race.

Good point, but considering that about 50-55 cars will probably be trying to qualify for the race (it *is* the Daytona 500, after all), it'll take some pretty creative "penalties" to get him in if he qualifies any worse than about 46th or 47th. Then again, this *is* NASCAR we are talking about, the home of "debris" cautions and the amazing ability to penalize a team for a rear support member on a car being 1/64th of an inch out of place after a 500-mile race (or some such), so anything is possible.

Any idea where a guy who hates NASCARs website can find a list of people trying to make the grid?

After 40 laps you won't be able to recognize the number to call and donate any ways.   That's if he even qualifies.   Vegas must have an over/under on what lap Mikie wrecks on.

Mickey was good at plate tracks when DEI was cheating. Since then, not so much

My bet is before lap 75, when one of the idjits that usually somehow qualifies for this race decides to prove that yes, you *can* bump draft with these new cars... as long as your definition of "bump-drafting" covers punting the driver in front of you into a wall at 200 mph.

So Toyota isn't even letting him near "his" cars any more, that's hilarious. Just let them call it Toyota Racing already.

I know you said you hate Nascar's website but it seems to be the only place to get the list.  This particular page is not awful.  It's pretty straightforward really.

NASCAR is a multi-billion dollar business. Just think how many levels of management/approval this idea had to go through, and at no point did anyone say "You know?.....Maybe not so much."

Saying no adds the stigma of being pro murdering kids or something. At least thats how people argue things these days.

2013-02-14 08:45:28 PM
If you read the article a couple of things jump out. Brian France donated 50,000 to the cause and Nascar is matching that amount. Also, Mike Helton called a guy from Newtown that lives in Daytona and said "hey, we're gonna paint a car for this" That car will be in this race.

That said, I love this part of the article....Waltrip, the owner of Michael Waltrip Racing, is driving in the 500 for Swan Racing to help get that new team, for which David Stremme will be the full-time driver, off to a good start.

Yes but those levels of management are populated entirely by people who work for NASCAR.  So you see, there's your problem right there.

Mine had HR Puffinstuff on the front. Don't know how many Thermos inserts I broke during a regular school year. I will say, though, that once I showed that I didn't mind using my lunchbox as a weapon, I was pretty much left alone from 2nd grade on.
Always nice to see a bully bleeding from the scalp.

Mikey gets a lot more attention than Stremme. This is about publicity so maybe... just maybe someone will pay attention to their car in the weeks after Daytona if he has a decent run or a fireball explosion.
