The failed jack and theft / credit card fraud occurred on Jan 28th; and the phone was tracked to the alleged's residence on the same day.  So why then, did the police wait over a week before making the arrest?  By that time the phone and other stolen goods could have been long since sold; and if the victim was like most people, he probably had his SS card and other info in his wallet so even if he canceled the credit cards almost immediately, he could still be fighting against identity theft for some time.

If you don't know how to drive a stick shift, you probably shouldn't try to carjack a Corvettebe on the road.

If you can't drive a manual, your driving ability is suspect, at best.

Buddy of mine in the coast guard on the west coast of Vancouver Island had to rescue three guys who had stolen a 40 foot sailboat from a habour in Vancouver.  No problem in the straights out of the city but once they were around Puget Sound and in the real ocean they were farked since none of them had any boating experience.

The hasty paint job over the name of the vessel and the "ummmm.....no...this boat is named....um...."Smith".  Yeah.  That's it. We're totally not the stolen boat you're looking for" radio call wasn't too convincing.  RCMP asked coast guard to do a slow slow tow back to port so that they could be waiting when they arrived.

The run-flats I've heard about are pretty useless unless you are three blocks from a tire store when one goes out.

From what I've seen, all the Corvettes around here (central VA) are driven by elderly retirees who take about 4 minutes to lower their poor hips to the driver seat.  And yes, they are all automatics.

Was at paddling practice (outrigger canoes, you sick farks) in HS when a red w/ silver racing stripes Viper pulls into the parking lot.  Dude that got out must've been in his late 60's.  He exits the vehicle, stares at the car's FOB, and manages to set the alarm off.  He stands there looking confused as fark whilst me and my crew mates stared agog.  Eventually, another guy and I approach the guy and help him turn off the alarm.  He had no recollection of buying the car, or of driving it to Magic Island (the beach park in question).

I remember thinking "Man, I hope when I'm that old I have enough F-U money to not even recall making a purchase of that magnitude."

We got him back into the car, which he proceeded to curb smash so badly I was surprised he didn't blow his front tire.

Which is why I feel perfectly comfortable leaving my S4 parked in the hood at any sporting event I attend. We used to call the shifter the "n*gger button" in my younger days in Detroit. Not once did anyone attempt to abscond with my rides (all manuals).

/Enough anecdotes equal evidence.

That's why I always buy a stick, and take my wallet and phone with me. Pro tip: Leave nothing in the car, they won't take nothing.

Mutiny32: They have run-flats, but since they such a large diameter mixed with such a thin sidewall, even that isn't useful for more than a few miles.

Actually, run-flats have extra-thick sidewalks that can support the car's weight during a flat tire situation.   They can go for about 50 miles Neil they get sketchy and should be replaced.

Driving is my special time, where I like to get pissed off at the other people on the road. Don't fark with that, man!

The sidewalls are much thicker from interior or to exterior.  I didn't mean the actual sidewall height.

Damn that is ugly. I realize the car is built primarily for the driver and not the passenger, but it looks like the designers forgot they were making a two seater and just tacked the second seat on.

Heh.  I got lucky.  I grew up on a dairy farm.  I was driving (non-synchromesh manual) farm tractors from the time I was six.  That was a blast.

(You want to see something *really* freaky, see if you can find the shift pattern for a John Deere 620.  Not no sissy 'H' pattern, looked like a drunken snail track.  But WTF, it had a hand-operated clutch.)

First new car I bought was my first stick in a *CAR* as opposed to a tractor.  And the first thing I had to do with it was pull out of the dealer and make a left across a 4-lane, no median.  With my Dad behind me in his car.
