Peak Mumford? Peak Keys?

No wonder bands fade away so fast. People hate everything.

Fan of both. I guess you just shouldn't come over tomorrow night.

Let me help, you hipster douche canoes.

Lots of bands spend long careers sucking mightily and consistently, but without actually knowing it.  A Grammy is outward confirmation from your peers of what you've suspected all along.  You are terrible to such a degree that you can never be redeemed.  Fortunately for you, that confirmation came early.  Now you can quit sucking at music, and open that little B&B you've been dreaming of.

I was hoping it was best new artist award. Men at Work won it in 1983 and we didnt hear much from them after that. Even Colin Hay said it killed the band

Who doesn't suck at music?

I'm sure I like lots of bands you think suck.  I'll just consider myself "Told" and we'll stay on topic instead of making it about me.

I didn't like them before it was popular to not like them.

To be fair, since then, there are many more best new artists winners who have had long careers.

I couldn't give two squirts about the Grammys or Sanford and Son, but I found it funny that the article had the f-bomb dashed-out in the headline, but went ahead and printed it in the first line.

Maybe. Maybe not. I hate the Grammy's as well, but your post just screamed for a reply.

I guess I surprisingly like that Mumford and Sons got some industry recognition playing real instruments and song writing. I dont' get the hate. With so much overproduced poppy/and or safe sh*t, they are kind of cool. But I like banjos and acoustic guitars and that sound so...

I've only heard the one song, but it sounds like every other folk/rock song I've ever heard.  So what's the big deal with these guys?

busy chillin': But I like banjos and acoustic guitars and that sound so...

I do too, actually.  I think I actually dislike them because I dislike the people I know IRL who like them.  That's hardly their fault.

Doesn't change a damn thing, though.  I have decided they are trying too hard and therefore suck, and that's an end of it!

2013-02-14 11:29:45 AM
Normally, I think banjo possession should be a capital crime. But I'll make an exception in M&S's case. They can really rock out on the banjo.

I knew it was a matter of time before country and club music merged to create a super power.

//I Will Wait is a hillbilly trance anthem

At least it isnt Kanye, Taylor Swift, or ke$ha. These guys actually write songs and play instruments. I can dig that.

So does Taylor.  Not that I think she should have won.

Tom Waits for about 15 minutes in 1985. I believe it was in Houston, ironically.

Mumford and Sons aren't bad, but the singer needs to figure out some new kinds of phrasing and delivery. An entire album of basically the same vocal track gets a little old.

Yeah, they really only have one song.

And it was better the first time.

Music is subjective.
Everyone hears something different.

When someone says "oh I only listen to good music", I always have the sudden urge to give them a falcon punch.

Kind of like eating a bag of pork rinds.
At least for me, they all taste the same and it gets old quickly.

2013-02-14 12:04:53 PM
Because a bag of pork rinds where every one tastes different than the next wouldn't be weird at all.

It's an industry award. If the recording industry existed in a vacuum we'd hear Carolina Chocolate Drops and Nathan Blake Lynn on the radio.

Heard them a long while back, from a friend who digs indie stuff.

I like that they're trying, I like that they're different.  I like that I can feel the emotion in their songs, whether it's regret or anger or acceptance.

As to their songs sounding the same...I blame that more on the listeners than the band itself.  No one can say that with a straight face.

Yeah, my only complaint is all their songs sound like all their other songs

MFAWG: I admit being surprised by the accents

It's pretty common for lots of bands from outside of North America to learn to sing with "American" accents, particularly when it is a genre of music mostly from North America like country, bluegrass, etc.

The Grammys lost all credibility when they failed to honor Keyboard Cat

When I want to hear Bluegrass instruments, I'll listen to a real Bluegrass group. Not a bunch of hipsters pretending to do something new and unique.

Speaking of, Bela won another Grammy this year.
