(Slate)   Amazon users rejoice after their angry campaign leads to toy Predator drones (for kids 3 and up) being pulled from the site. Oh, sorry, did we say "pulled from the site?" We meant "sold out in record time"   (slate.com) divider line 66

imfallen_angel: I almost posted exactly this... got one a month or so ago, probably one of the best transformers ever made, the darn thing became an instant favourite for me, and the "plane/drone" mode can be make into jet or starship by simply moving the wings back or tilting them.

I just managed to find a second one as a backup (and its staying in the box for now).

/yeah, I'm a big kid...

i remember seeing tons of these in toysrus and target a year ago for $13, $33 on amazon, sheesh.

if you think this is impressive, you should check out the japanese transforms from small hobby shops.

What scale is that? It could be a good GI Joe accessory. Later this year Hasbro is releasing a previously cancelled Cobra Data Viper figure that will include an unmanned drone. Matchbox also has a drone plane in their Sky Busters series, but it is not modeled after a specific real life model.

There ought to be a Guantanamo Playset.

Complete with waterboarding kit, and car battery with testicle clamps!

joonyer: The My Little Pony Killer: vpb: Most drones don't even carry weapons.

This is something that can't be repeated enough in drone threads.

//bring on the drones!

And even if they do...even better.

We're never going to stop blowing the shiat out of each other, we might as well minimize our risk. I do not understand the moral argument against unmanned drones compared to manned aircraft. It's just silly.

I think it's because they are new.  Some people just fear change, and this is a different way of doing things.  Plus, since it's new, media can drum up more controversy.  I keep seeing things about drones accidentally killing civilians... but I DON'T see statistics on "collateral damage" for drones vs. manned aircraft.

Now, if you're looking for a moral argument I've got one:

It lowers the cost of war, thus making war more likely.  No one wants to send their kid off to die, but if you just send a drone over there's no real risk.

That said, I'm pretty sure the kind of people who start wars don't really care that much about human life anyway... so it might not actually affect their decision making at all.  Hell, if the drones are expensive it might even have the reverse effect! ;)

Nice... that Devastator is awesome looking but what the #*&^#$ with these prices... this is molded plastic... it's ridiculous.. mass production and actual material used probably would make them cost 5$.

I have a few Soul of Chogokins (Grendizer, Mazinger Z, and a few others...).  Those are serious workmanship but still pricy.  If you've never seen these and like robots... you'll pop your pants probably... so at your own risk.

My Transformers collection is more related to Robotech / Macross than actual Transformers.  I like the planes (and some wheeled vehicles) that could be piloted.

The number of Robotech/Macross toys are too limited, there's just so many variants of the same planes and ships that I can have.  I'm just still sitting and waiting for that live action movie that has been in the works for a few years (but not a single word since).

My desk (older picture as I have more now):

But this is a fraction of my collection.

This is the future that needs to happen... at least the giant robot part, not the rest as per the food thing... that would suck.

the ones i linked are made by small groups. the price is reflective of casting costs, licensing fees, materials coat (they use resin), the exchange rate, import fees and mark up bbts has.

what's funny is it looks like takahara toys (big japanese company) designs all of the transformers now, which might explain why the toyline has gotten so much better lately.

I'm getting one for my kid and teaching her to get used to Government invasion of privacy and suspension of rights.  It will also help teach her what to shoot at.
Anyone ever read Heinlein's Friday?

The My Little Pony Killer: Aww man, that would make a great birthday gift for my nephew.  It would go great with his Playmobil Bank Robber set.

Personally, I prefer the Playmobil Safe Cracker set.  Not as violent.  And, if things go badly with the cutting torch, you can always call in the Lego Hazmat Team.

I'd really like an R/C predator drone model. I could get it circling my teabag neighbors house, and he would panic. Hard to tell exactly how big something is that is up there, even a small model would work.

auguy: Good luck getting it.  I cancelled the last order I will ever place with Amazon today because after 5 days of it showing "In Stock", it still hadn't shipped.  I'm not going to join Prime to get "free shipping" just to get you to process orders in a timely fashion.

Amazon Prime is the best thing in the history of the internets.  Not just free shipping, free two day shipping.  I just got a damn refrigerator on there with free two day shipping.  Lowe's wanted $69 for delivery.

WTF is people's problem these days? Is it because the planes are unmanned? So, it's ok to kill people from the air as long as there is a human pilot on board?

Rev. Skarekroe: Look, no matter how hard well meaning liberal parents try, you're not going to stop little boys from playing war and pretending to kill each other.

And that's because human beings are fundamentally awful creatures.

I don't know where you got liberal from. It is after all a liberal president who is using these things to murder people around the world. Liberals should love them.

Not to mention free movies/tv.  Yeah, the selection isn't the best... but there IS some good stuff on there.
