Not Submitter, but yes.

Of course, I also know a whole lot of people that are going to be impacted by the acquisition, so it's more of a personal thing.

If InBev bought Heinz, I'd be worried.  But Warren Buffett?  Not too much.

Oh, I'm not *worried*.  Hopefully this will increase their competitiveness to the point where they can crush "Hunt's Catsup" completely.

If it makes you feel any better, Berkshire's model works like this:

1) Find well-managed cash-cow company.
2) Buy it.
3) Let well-managed cash-cow company remain well-managed and making cash.

That's really it. They don't try to fix what isn't broken; they just want the profits.

Yes, that does make me feel a little better.  I've been trying to read about the Berkshire consortium but I'm overwhelmed by what's out there.  There are people on my FB page that are freaking out about it.  Change is always scary I guess.

Make this your status: "You ain't got no problem. I'm on the motherf*cker. Go back in there, chill them Canucks out and wait for the Buffett who should be coming directly."

LOL!  Yeah, I may just change my status to that.  Of course, some people may not find that as funny as I do.

G3 owns a hunk of Burger King and Berkshire owns Dairy Queen.

Is the Heinz in the UK the same corporation?  If so, I'm going to have to come up with a brown sauce joke.

i suggest to read up on buffet first. iirc, he's the majority stake holder of the a-class (voting) shares, which gives him full control of the company. he really is an investor, completely opposite of mitt romney.

Thank you, I will do that.  Leamington is a relatively small town and so it really is the 'buzz' around town.  Even the Mayor has made a statement.  He is taking the stance that he's pretty happy Warren Buffett is involved in the sale, but then what's he going to say?  EVERYBODY PANIC???? LOL

when kraft ceo sold their profitable frozen pizza brands to fund their cadbury takeover, buffet publicly criticized the move, saying he would've loved to buy those brands.

Warren Buffett's rule of thumb (for directors too):
"...I want employees to ask themselves whether they are willing to have any contemplated act appear the next day on the front page of their local paper - to be read by their spouses, children and friends - with the reporting done by an informed and critical reporter."

Sorry but Hunt's is greater than Heinz.  See right there on the label No HFCS.  Heinz can't make that claim.

/and it hasn't been spelled 'catsup' since the 80's.
//BTW catsup was the original spelling

Yes it can... and Hunts has started making HFCS Ketchup again, if I'm remembering properly - their 100% no HFCS didn't work out apparently.

That's a lot of ketchup

At retail prices (~$0.07/oz), that's 400 billion ounces, or about 12 billion liters, which is 12 million cubic meters, which makes for a cube of ketchup 341 meters on a side.

Converting to more traditional units, that's enough to cover Rhode Island to a depth of 3mm, or fill 4,800 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

That is indeed a lot of ketchup. Conversion to catsup is left as an exercise for the reader.
