> "the risk of sustained person-to-person transmission appears to be very low"

Or the incubation period might be long.
Or people are trying to rough it out at home only until/unless it turns into un-ignorable pneumonia.
Or health professionals aren't actually testing the pneumonia/respiratory distress cases they've got; they're just treating and sending people home to free up rooms.

Keep your eye out for:

* What company creates the vaccine
* Which government officials own stock in the company
* Which government officials attempt to scare the public over the disease this time

Oh, great, now I have to put up with my ignorant father-in-law ranting on and on about him needing to use hand sanitizer when he visits his bank because he's scared of getting "the SCARS".

Dead farkers, natural disasters that actually occurred and are actually disasters. Any "threat of" is likely over hyped BS or fear mongering.

i'm amused by how sars was this omfg you gonna die disease everywhere but the US and a handful of other countries.

oldfarthenry: Let me one of the 12,851,821 in Ontario to say "Ah geez! Not this sh*t again!"

I was quarantined for 10 days during that outbreak as a result of visiting my mum who was in a Toronto hospital that had some SARS cases (they found the cases several hours after my visit - I heard about my quarantine order on the radio - "all persons who visited Scarborough General Hospital on such and such date and time are hereby quarantined - call this number for details").   It was May - beautiful weather so I went up to my uncle's summer cottage for some fishin' and relaxin'.  Paid days off work too!   Oh how I suffered.

SARS did cause 44 deaths in the Toronto region and thousands of deaths around the world so it was certainly NOT blown out of proportion.

CSB.  A year later I was interviewed along with many other quarantine 'survivors' by a General from the United States military (Pentagon).  This guy was an MD and was trying to gauge the attitudes of those quarantined - how we cooperated, how we felt about being quarantined etc. - with a view to what might happen if the US were attacked with bio-weapons and quarantining might be necessary.  I recall asking him at the end of the interview what he thought about such a scenario and he hinted that he felt that Americans would not be as cooperative if told en masse that they were quarantined......

2013-02-14 03:11:19 PM
They're not gonna get me this time. Everytime there's an OMGELEVENTY!!!!SEVEN! the world is going to end plague I get my hopes up that Laura Ling and I will survive and start repopulating the world in our own private little shargi-la. Not this time. Nope, not gonna get me again.

Of course they wouldn't; of all of the "First-World" nations, the USA probably has the highest percentage of people who naturally rebel against authority ( even if it's for our own good...)

2013-02-14 03:23:43 PM
I know what virally means but there are people out there (not me because I know what it means) that dont know what it means so could you elaborate a little further?

There's also the fact that we wouldn't get paid to hide ourselves away in a forest cabin and hunt and fish until the quarantine was over - we'd lose our jobs while we were quarantined.

I too am shocked that a virus is being transmitted virally. That is shocking.
