If she survives all of these transplants, she'll be the first proven case of reincarnation!

*I* have an organ for her......

Why the hell is this national news? There are millions of people in the same condition. Her chance of survival, requiring four organ transplants, is very low.

Somone's a little butthurt...maybe an anus transplant would help that...

I see what you did there subby.

This is a tough call. She's basically taking the organs that could be used in three different transplant patients (pancreas and kidney are usually transplanted together). Her chances of surviving all the transplants are not good.

Nice cleavage!

"It's a complex operation," Langnas said of the quadruple transplant, "but it's her only opportunity for survival and a reasonably good quality of life."

Holy fark, just let her go!  There is no justification for this.  Her body was born defective, and thanks to the hubris of doctors, her mind was allowed to develop to enjoy the wonderful side effects.  Just let her go.  Maybe there is reincarnation and she will come back to a better life, maybe there is an afterlife and she will go on to be happy there, or maybe there is nothing and she will never know the difference.  Whatever it turns out to be, there is no excuse for continuing to allow her to suffer here.

But she's young and attractive, therefore she deserves all teh organs.

You forgot white. Give her a box of blonde hair dye and someone will pay to give her a bionic body so that she never has to worry about complications from transplants ever again.

DVDA, she could get a whole bunch more organ donations....  (and then wipe them off... eww)

If the power supply in your computer fails, you get a new power supply.  If the power supply and the hard drive fail, you still probably replace them.  When those plus the video card fail, the equation flips - it's not how many bad parts need replaced, it's how many good parts you can salvage.

Give her skull cap to her mother so she can still brush her hair.  Give one of her hands to her father so he can comfort himself with it.  Let the boyfriend from the article and the boyfriend no one knows about fight it out over the pink canister and the brown canister.  Harvest the rest of her so that not only others may live but she may live on too.

You really get a glimpse into a person's true character when they're put in a position to help other people or help themselves.

I'm guessing she's got more photos of her duck face on Facebook than an entire middle school cheer squad combined.

You know how I know the reason healthcare costs are so freaking high and that good health insurance is so expensive nearly 49 million of our fellow citizens cannot afford to buy it? You should have butt-hurt about cases such as these; we all should. As Molavian wrote, "there's a time to let go."

Agreed.  If I had all those conditions I wouldn't expect the world to help me out with all my problems. The waiting list is long just for one organ, let alone 3 organs.

I am dying, I know I am dying.  Make the most of it while your still here and pass with dignity.

I'm sorry I didn't know you had all the details on her insurance situation, her family's financial situation, and how she intends to finance her continuance on life.  Seems like she's getting some funds from the foundation that's helping her find a donor.  You're right though, we should just kill everyone who is a drain on our health care system, regardless of what their future contributions to society could potentially be.  Death panels, FOR THE GREATER GOOD!

While I don't think anyone here is advocating death panels; there comes a point where someone has to make a tough choice of what is best for the patient, and for others that are waiting on the same organs. Do you give all these organs to a very high risk patient?

This, I agree with, but it's a personal decision that doctors should encourage their patients to make.  She most likely will die before her number comes up on the list, unless she finds her own donors, in which case good for her.

Darwin was correct about natural selection, until you throw the human animal into the scenario...

We pity and go out of our way to help the sick, the lame, the slower side of the herd, then wonder why the amount of people with Aspergers and other issues like this are exploding like crazy...

Then, we place limits on the size of animals, taking only the largest animals and leaving the rest of the herd just that much less likely to pass on the best genes... And then we see a declining trend in animal sizes...

I read it the very same way.

I would just like to point out that if we didn't try to keep people with congenital disorders or diseases alive long enough to procreate we would be able to remove most of them from the gene pool ensuring fewer will suffer in the future.

You could call them "life panels."  They don't decide who's dying, only who we're going to try mightily to keep alive.

I don't mind keeping them alive, but they shouldn't procreate.  Hell, I'd have no problem with everyone being allowed to have a single child, then being sterilized unless you bring a beneficial inheritable trait to the table.

I wasn't thinking of her reproducing I was speaking of other people and her mother having another child.

I could get behind both of those ideas, but I would allow for two children per woman. I am not being sexist just practical that sterilizing the woman after two kids would be easier to control than sterilizing the man since she would be able to conceive using another man.
