Just remember that when she tells you that 'you're just a friend' then she's just lying to make her feel better for not telling you that she doesn't find you attractive.

Also remember that even if you were friends before you developed feelings, it's still your fault for putting anyone in this situation and you obviously only became friends to get in her pants.

Finally:
1. Be attractive
2. Don't be unattractive

To which the proper retort is "it's your fault for not wearing skirts".

Winning and keep are very very very different. The list in TFA is pretty good for being nice to someone  you're already with. But unfortunately doing acts of kindness like that for a girl you're interested in but not with is a pretty fast way to get friend-zoned. It paints you in the weak supportive role. Being supportive is great for couples. But those kind of supportive acts, especially if you do more than one, just really don't make you seem like the strong dominant man most females are initially attracted to.

Whenever I see that pic I truly want to believe that he simply bought those two pillows for his nieces or friend's daughters. But then reality sets in and I feel that the truth is far creepier and involves much self delusion and crushing despair.

Good Idea: Surprising your loved one with the things mentioned in this article.
Bad idea: Surprising a prospective loved one with the things mentioned in this article.

There's nothing wrong with acts of kindness but people can take it too far and be too nice or suppliant in situations when they're interested in someone. If you put down whatever you're doing and always run to aid or support your interest whenever they call you're likely to become viewed as a crutch and a doormat.

Nobody wants to date a doormat. (or they'll date them just long enough to raise their self-esteem and then drop them the first chance something better comes along)

ymmv though.

Additionally, why are all the tips computer-centric?  Is the assumption geeks can't notice what their partner wants or needs and fulfill those to the best of their ability?

TFA amounts to "do her lots of tech favors".
Normally this isn't a bad idea, but you better make your intentions apparent or you're gonna get friend zoned.   You're gonna get friend zoned hard, like a castrated sugar daddy who only get texts when shes broken her computer.

Be careful with this one, especially if your loved one is a geek. I hate the idea of people messing with settings or hardware on my computer. Seriously, I'd rather that if something went wrong that I was the only one who could be blamed.

/Using my computer is about all the privilege you get from me.

screw love. the only emotion that lasts is hate. and most people suck. all too often their interest in you is self-serving. if the government allowed adults to be adults and prostitution was legal the unwashed masses wouldn't be cranking out children non stop in bulk quantities. the day would come when there would be a shortage of stupid willing hands to work in the rich mans factories and to go die in the powerful mans wars. the rich and powerful can't let that happen. it wouldn't serve their greedy wants.

These are not good ideas unless you plan on doing them for your mother or similarly technologically clueless family member. Unless someone asks you to fool with their tech, you leave their tech alone.

I can't tell if that article is wish fullfillment fantasy or if the writer just doesn't have a clue. All of those are nice things to do for friends and/or loved ones. But they wont make anyone fall for you. Trying to use that to woo someone seems like an effective way to demoted to "situationally useful".

I was thinking "wish fulfillment fantasy" myself. "Oh, if I show him/her how USEFUL I am, they'll swoon!"

I don't know. I think I believe the claim of asexuality. I've known a couple asexuals (not girlfriends, just acquaintances) and they really, sincerely were not interested in sex. They would date, but they just didn't care about anything beyond social interaction. They said the though of sexual contact with anyone, of either gender, was simply unappealing to them. One said she would  occasionally masturbate, while the other three (one guy, two girls) said they don't masturbate at all (at least not intentionally) because they're not even sexually stimulated by themselves. It just didn't enter into their realm of interest or instinct to be sexually active. They had all  tried to be sexually active, to be "normal", but they all said they found that they have no physical, emotional, or psychological investment in intimate contact. One said she was actually repulsed by the idea of anything more intense than polite (closed mouth) kissing.

Asexuals do exist. I can't say whether or not the girl in that article/photo really is one, but if she is it's kind of a shame, because she's kinda cute.

Yeah... if you can't recognize a blatant phishing e-mail without having your hand held, you're too dumb to be a friend let alone anything more.

I'd also toss in develop at least one non-geeky, general interest or hobby. Because sure, in a perfect world, the person across the table from you is as big a fan of Zelda as you are. But if they aren't and you're generally interested, you better be bringing something else to the table besides your Link fan fiction.
