Fake?  What's fake about it.  All this "I call BS" crap is getting old.  Just because it didn't happen to you or in your backyard doesn't mean it doesn't happen.  There's 300 million people in the US, 7 billion in the world.  You don't see it all.

It's not like the guy flew it through 4 buildings and a moving fan.  Sure that would probably be fake.  This guy just ran it up into a tree and it fell to the ground.  OMG THAT'S SO FAKE.

Fellow Farkers, let me just say that I've seen a lot of fake posts in my life, and I can tell you that the post quoted above is among the most fake that I've ever seen.

Because WMDs?

I call fake simply because if my tiny RC copter touches anything remotely solid with its blades it's loud. I find it hard to believe this thing wouldn't have made a bunch of noise hitting limbs like that. Even if it only hit leaves it'd make noise.

What? I don't see any evidence of decorative throw pillows, interior design, and there isn't even a HINT of Liza Minnelli in that video.

First of all, you can tell by the pixels.  I've seen quite a few chopper videos in my time.

where is this going? He killed the cats with the chopper blades or the cat brought down his toy and destroyed it?

Cats jumped up, grabbed it and totally trashed it.

It looks exactly like some tool with more money than sense spent way too much money for the hardest aircraft there is to fly, set up a camera on himself to document how cool his first flight with his stupid expensive toy was, stood on the throttle until he defoliated half his trees and damaged his expensive toy.

Then posted the video, probably to show everyone how flawed the product he bought was.

Very Plausible to me.

Hmmmm.  Now that I think of it, as soon as the rotor hit the branches the heli' would have been thrown down rather than sit there chopping away. Also, when it landed I didn't notice any damage whatsoever other than the blades being loose.  To me, the fakery shows itself when the guy walks towards the downed bird...he sure doesn't look like someone who just destroyed such an expensive toy....he just kind of shrugs it off.

Also---it doesn't look like the antenna on the transmitter was extended.

sooooo....he had someone hide up in the tree, throw some leaves down, and edited in some buzzing noises?

more likely his friend filmed it, saw how much of idiot his buddy was, and posted it himself.

not everything is fake people. have a little faith

Surrounded by trees is certainly the best spot to fly an RC helicopter

Not always, these helicopters can be very large, and have the power to work through small branches. I only have a 450 size electric and would go about trimming the thick waist high grass in the field. They are sport helicopters, meaning they can be totally inverted going straight down, and not only stop on a dime, but reverse direction in an instant. That takes a lot of torque. Some of the tricks people do with these I would easily dismiss as fake, except I seen it for myself.

/I suck at flying them.

I hear you about that. I gave up on RC (not heli'; regular trainer planes) a long time ago. I did just fine but after a while could no longer afford the repairs and it got old quick and I gave up (but they make for fine decorations in my garage). Anyhow, there are several things about this vid that simply don't ring true/realistic.  F'ristance, it appears the xmitter antenna isn't extended. Might be that this guy had no idea what he was doing and had a RTF and that was it. Also, it's curious how the heli landed with such a perfectly audible thud right next to the camera. Pure chance? Hmmm.  But do check out how the guy nonchalantly walks to assess the damage. A heli in that situation would have suffered a LOT more damage. Unless, of course, the guy got lucky.

Lastly, no one...NO ONE...who has a heli of that size would ever do a test run under a canopy of trees.

People keep harping on the "antenna not extended". Modern hobbyist radio gear is spread spectrum 2ghz and just has a little 'rubber duck' antenna. Been this way for the last 5-6 years.

in all fairness, I do a fair amount of RCing and I had a buddy get into it too, we were ripping around with our touring cars, refuelled and fired up, he forgot his antenna down, needless to say his car fit in many bags not just the one anymore

hell, it could have been one of those electric numbers. that would account for the rotors doing what they do afterwards, and the general survivability of the toy.

those things are a LOT tougher than they look.

dunno if they come THAT big tho.

The blades weren't loose, they hinge them now so they don't break in a crash.  That's by design.

I understand what you're saying. In fact, I built a small basic heli years ago with only 3 or 4 channels and the blades were hinged. But one way or another, the one in the video would not have been able to remain stable and chop away at the tree for so long. I call fakery.
