I'm really surprised that conservative mouthpieces haven't come up with video clips of Obama drinking water.

Lack of style and awkward appearance aside...

Why is this guy anything special? He's basically babbling about the same regressive nonsense the GOP have been talking about for years.

He's not even that good at polishing the GOP turd, and I'm supposed to think this clown would make a good President?

So who did the translation, ABC or the GOP?
And can you really call it a 'response' if you filmed it before the thing to which you were responding happened?

They don't even realize that GOP goals and policies are horrific.  Well, those that do left the GOP.

Why would you polish something so shiny and bright as GOP policy.  It is the shining center of light in this dismal dark nation.

Why did Rubio respond in Spanish?
Doesn't he know that this is America?
Doesn't he know that in America we speak English?

He should go back to Mexico or Brazil or where ever he came from where he can speak Spanish all day long.

I watched about 5 minutes of Rubio while I was trying to figure out if he was responding to Obama or to what he thought Obama represented. Then I have up and went to bed which seems to have been a better use of my time. Maddow caught this too and commented on the parts where he was jist plain wrong about what Obama said in the SOTU, then went ahead and showed where Rubio shared talking points with Rmoney.

Well done Senator! You're already an also-ran for 2016.

That reads like my google transcribed voice mails. Usually just enough accuracy to determine the subject, but little as to its context.

It just further illustrates how clueless the GOP has become.

Not one of these half wits has been able to figure out it isn't how the message is presented, but rather, the message itself.

They've been preaching this trickle-down bullshiat since the 80s, and the only thing it's accomplished is making the very wealthy even wealthier.

2013-02-14 07:37:03 AM
The response to the SOTU is a no win situation.  Both parties should give up on it.  The president always looks regal with all the ceremony surrounding the SOTU whereas the response is always from a quiet, empty room.  The response always has the feel of a video on YouTube by the ugly chick complaining about the prom because she wasn't invited.

It would be better if the response was actually a response to the speech - I could accept if it wasnt smooth and significant in length.

How about: "Hey we disagree with A,B and C but we think we can get something done with D and E although we have different ideas on how to do that."

Instead you get some response that was written days ahead of time - the president could get up there and do 20 minutes of stand-up followed by a juggling act and you'd never know it from the "response".

A libertarian friend on facebook contends that trickle-down didn't work because we have a fiat currency.

I at least got him to agree thay the only way we could go back to the gold standard was if we had an economic downturn so severe it made the Great Depression look like a day when the DJIA lost 5 points.

What confuses me most about the famous water slerping is that usually this response is done on tape, isn't it?  Why did they do it live?  That in itself is odd.

Of course I don't find the rest of it odd at all.  All the GOP does is argue about ghosts and strawmen.  Their real platform is to help their corporate and rich buddies and then they work backwards from that, so they can't get around having bad arguments.

After doing reading I've come to the conclusion that trickle down works in a *closed* system.  In Regan's era it still worked a little because we weren't quite in the global economy stage yet.  Now that we're not in a closed system at all it doesn't work at all.  Or maybe it works on a global scale with some of the trickle going to the super-poor in China and Africa.  It never works all that well no matter what, though.

Rubio was "Area man passionate about what he imagines Obama's SotU to be".

Yeah, that was my mind issue with his "speech", he was criticizing imaginary things in Obama's speech that weren't actually said. Its simply easier to setup a straw-man Obama to argue against rather than listen to what he actually had to say.

Anyway, I wanted to read from chapter three... which is the story of my first rise to financial prominence.

I had a small house of brokerage on Wall Street... many days no business come to my ... hut. Hmm. But Jimmy has fear? A thousand times no. I never doubted myself for a minute for I knew that my monkey strong bowels were girded with strength like the loins of a dragon ribboned with fat and the opulence of buffalo... dung. Glorious sunset of my heart was fading. Soon the super karate monkey death car would park in my space. But Jimmy has fancy plans... and pants to match. The monkey clown horrible karate round and yummy like cute small baby chick would beat the donkey.

Given his accent in Spanish, you may need to drive over to the Havana Home Depot.

They told me those Islanders can't pronounce the last syllable of any word, that's really true.  I'm sure many Mexicans had to read the subtitles, too, just to understand him.

Next time have a guy with a super thick Irish accent give the rebuttal.  And change the drinking game to any word no one can understand.

Apparently it means that the government can't run deficits or something since they can't just print money to finance new debt.  As if we never an deficits before.

To me, gold has value only because people assign value to it (they have faith that it's worth something).  Fiat currency does the same thing, only it's in the government now has a vested interest in keeping that economy going, since a lack of faith of the US Government is similar to a lack of faith in the value of gold.

2. He just paid off his student loans
3. He isn't so white that it hurts to look directly at him.

4.  He's not a robot.  See.  He needs to drink water to stay alive!  That would've fried Romney's circuits.

Otherwise, I can't tell them apart, no.
