Methods under consideration include blocking porn IP addresses and making it illegal to use Icelandic credit cards to access x-rated sites.

They get all the cool tech on that side of the pond first. Credit cards that can access porn? What will they think of next! We still have to use a computer.

illegal to use a credit card to buy porn? that would stop you how?? LOL
blocking IP addresses? isnt that the kind of BS they do in China to restrict freedom?

I predict that this wont actually stop porn ...

Of course not, they're going to have to firewall all network connections into/out of the country.  There's no way they'll be able to enforce their rules on porn sites hosted/based outside the country.

nice try, but these are nanny state liberals protecting the civil rights of women, not bible thumping conservatives objecting to fornication outside of wedlock. this is modern liberalism taken one of the fairly obvious and logical conclusion.

FTFA:

Two years ago, the Icelandic Parliament - led by female prime minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir  -  successfully banned all strip clubs on the grounds that they violated the civil rights of the women who worked there and were harmful to society.
This argument - that porn violates the rights of both women who appear in it and children who are exposed to it - is the cornerstone of the new proposals under discussion.

and every country that has a child naming law is fairly leftist.

kids my eye, we all know dozens of internet filters exist for parents to buy & use. i hate when people lord over other people when it's regarding adults being adults without harming anyone. there is something really twisted about being a cockblocker. it's unnatural, unhealthy and unacceptable. only a coont would think that a country full of sexually frustrated mens is a good idea.

The freaked parent of an 18 month old daughter part of me says the amount of pornographic imagery available on the web is farking scary. I wish it was just a little bit harder to get to. The libertarian part of me says stop being a whiny helicopter parent and buy filters for your home network and don't let your kid use a smartphone, tablet, gameboy, xbox, playstation, or a blue-ray player without supervision.

Well you can have a seat over there and potentially lose access to your children depending on thier age.

Good on a society that has chosen to say no to vulgarity. If your idea of natural sex is like you see taking place in violent porn videos then you need help and if those videos are the only way you can get off then no wonder you are alone.

I think the lingerie catalogs are pretty healthy for development.  At least that's what the men in my life say.  The upside for me is that even shape wear and granny panties can be internalized as attractive because "panties" and because if I squint hard enough and imagine "boob!".

I'm from Iceland, and I work for an internet provider.  This article is sensationalist garbage.

Just because one guy in politics has some crazy ideas, does not mean "Iceland is considering".

This is on par with taking something crazy Michelle Bachmann says and then writing an article saying "The US is considering..."

Violent porn is like violent video games. Busybody crusaders assume that all porn is violent, but only a portion of people really look at the farked-up stuff. And even if they do, so what?

Getting a bit aggressive with those 'featured partner' links aren't they?

2013-02-14 07:24:25 AM
back in the early 1980s, my friends and I were running an operation at school where we were duplicating and selling hardcore porn movies. Let me explain what we were up against:-

1. We were 14 years old. We didn't own the equipment for duplicating it.
2. VHS machines cost like £300-400, or about the same as a month's mortgage, or nearly a year's pocket money. Tapes cost £5 each.
3. Hardcore pornography was illegal to sell in the UK at the time.
4. Duplicating VHS was real time. An hour tape took an hour to copy.

You want to compare that with the billions of sites on the internet, some of which will sneak through the net, some of which will take time before they get blocked, the fact that kids will interchange where the links are, that a 1TB drive costs the equivalent of 50p/movie, copies with 0% degradation, and will do a movie in a minute.

It's going to be hilarious watching Iceland try to stop this.

kim jong-un: Getting a bit aggressive with those 'featured partner' links aren't they?

I had turned off "Ad Block Plus" for Fark.com because, well because I really like the site and I figured if they can make a couple bucks loading ads I pay no attention to, that I would play along.

Then those things started showing up - notice how its always like the 4th link down - its an ad placed in the link stream but disguised as a link.  And wouldnt ya know it - turning adblock back on  makes them go away.  So back on went adblock plus - so I dont have to read "Filthiest pictures on the internet... " or whatever the hell it said, 50 times a day.

You mean the Daily Fail is just overhyping and sensationalizing some non-story? I'm shocked! They've never done that before!
