Dude targeted the LAPD and their families. You didn't think there would be retaliation?

2013-02-13 06:53:51 PM
The police are not judge, jury or executioner.  Only Judge Dredd is.

2013-02-13 06:54:46 PM
No, either one of their tear gas grenades or Dorner's smoke grenades did.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised

Yeah, that's why the police have explicit authority to murder anyone if they are expected of a crime, particularly in such a barbaric method such as burning someone to death.

To do anything less than condemn this is deplorable in itself.

They sent Mattie up top to cover the chimney with a blanket.

I don't approve of their actions, by any means. But, I get WHY they did it. I think I understand their mentality.

I disagree with it,but I get it.

Really, who didn't think that was gonna be the outcome?

The mentality of the police is at best psychotic.  In their role of "protecting" the people they commonly open fire with minimal cause, regularly exercise excessive force, and choose to act as judge, jury and executioner whenever they want, without any kind of effective oversight.  Their actions are in direct contradiction of their stated and designed goals.  By any reasonable standard, the police are the single biggest threat to their designed role.

And

2013-02-13 07:27:18 PM
Meh, they lit fire to the cabin. Doyner then had two options, come out and face the police, or stay in and burn to death. He chose the latter option.

If they had forcefully barricaded the doors to trap him inside I'd probably have a little bit more outrage, but at the end of the day he's dead and can't kill anyone else.

2013-02-13 07:29:44 PM
Yeah, they probably did.  Looks that way.  Under the circumstances, it may have been the sensible thing to do.

If only that were true of all the other psycho killer cops in this country.

Well, once you get up to 5-6 stars like Dorner then you can't be surprised when the cops start pulling out the big guns.

2013-02-13 07:33:51 PM

scottydoesntknow: come out and face the police

And be summarily executed.  There is zero chance the police would have held their fire, presuming he could get out through the fire.

Popcorn Johnny: No, either one of their tear gas grenades or Dorner's smoke grenades did.

Nah, on the tape they are heard to say they have "burners" in place, and a few seconds later they anounce that the front is on fire.

2013-02-13 07:35:21 PM
I assumed they started it when I saw the smoke. Did anyone think they were going to take him alive?

And? This guy had a death wish. Do you really think he would've come out waving a white flag ready to surrender? Hell no, he wanted to die and take as many people as he could with him. I'll save my LEO outrage for their other acts of violence, like the two women shot up in a car that looked like Doyner's.

Or worse, even. How bad is it if he'd choose burning to death rather than face the cops?

I get the distinct impression that many in the law enforcement field in these larger metropolises seem to have an "at war" attitude and a subset of those seem to view the population they are to protect as the enemy.

So, when are we going to get an identification other than a wallet? Anyone have an eta?

Didn't a US Marshal report that Dorner tried to exit but was pushed back in?

If I was in that situation, I'd hope there was a break or something in the fire that would let me escape.  It would be the only way death would not be immediate.

scottydoesntknow: Do you really think he would've come out waving a white flag ready to surrender?

Do you actually think he would have been allowed to surrender?

In all honesty, I don't care. He's dead and won't kill anyone else.

That you see no problem with that is immensely saddening and deeply worrying.

It's interesting how many of the folks around here who think Dorner got what he deserved are also mighty upset about possible drone strikes against terrorists overseas who happen to be Americans.

If that is the mentality they are going to choose to take when faced with the manhunt of a cop-killer, they don't need to be anywhere near a police force.

/yes, I know we're pretty much in agreement

Yep. LAPD probably figured Dorner had compiled incriminating info on in-house corruption and did not want to risk the cop-killer having a day in court to talk about it. Don't get me wrong. Dorner deserved a lot of prison time and possibly a seat in Ol' Sparky. It's just the LAPD's overly aggressive and lethal tactics on the suspect smelly fishy and inadvertently reinforce the negative stereotypes Dorner was enraged about.

So let's all turn in our AR-15s! Or at least compile a nice database of who owns a gun!
